''The Brute'' is a lost 1914 early silent feature film directed by Thomas N. Heffron and starring stage actor Malcolm Williams. It was produced by Adolph Zukor and Daniel Frohman. The film was released on a State Rights basis. Wilhelm Von Brincken
Wilhelm von Brincken (May 27, 1881 – January 18, 1946), also known as Wilhelm L. von Brincken, William Vaughn, William von Brinken, and William Vaughan, was a German diplomat and spy during World War I, who went on to become an American character actor of the silent and talkie eras. Personal life Von Brincken was born on May 27, 1881 in Flensburg, Germany. His father was a German diplomat from Prussia, as well as being a baron. While a student at Military Telegraph School in Berlin, he engaged in a sword duel. While he won, the event left him with a permanent facial scar. He graduated from the University of Strasbourg, as well as the Potsdam War College. Von Brincken was an officer in the German cavalry, being a lieutenant in the Royal Saxon Cavalry. Von Brincken had a ranch near Sunnyvale, California. In 1910, he married Alice Roedel of San Mateo, in Blankenburg, Germany. They had one child, a son, Hans Frederich Wilhelm. Daniel Frohman (August 22, 1851 – December 26, 1940) was an American theatrical producer and manager, and an early film producer. Biography Frohman was born to a American Jews, Jewish family in Sandusky, Ohio. His parents were Henry (1826–1899) and Barbara (Babelle) Straus (1828–1891) Frohman. In his younger days he worked as a clerk at the ''New York Tribune'', and while there witnessed the fatal shooting of the reporter Albert Deane Richardson by Daniel McFarland on November 25, 1869, and was a witness at McFarland's murder trial. With his brothers Charles Frohman, Charles and Gustave Frohman, he helped to develop a system of road companies that would tour the nation while the show also played in New York City. The three brothers worked together at the Madison Square Theatre in the early 1880s. Camilla Dalberg, (1870–1968), was a German-American actress and writer known for her roles as Mrs. Clare in ''Tess of the D'Urbervilles'' (1913) and Mother in ''The Seven Sisters'' (1915), as well as numerous other stage and film roles throughout the 1910s and 1920s. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Though at the time the technology to synchronize sound with the film did not exist, music was seen as an essential part of the viewing experience.
