The Breaking Point (1924 Film)
''The Breaking Point'' is a 1924 American silent mystery film directed by Herbert Brenon and written by Edfrid A. Bingham and Julie Herne. The film, based on the 1922 novel of the same name by Mary Roberts Rinehart, stars Nita Naldi, Patsy Ruth Miller, George Fawcett, Matt Moore, John Merkyl, Theodore von Eltz, and Edythe Chapman. The film was released on May 4, 1924, by Paramount Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine review, believing that he has killed the husband of Beverly Carlysle, an actress with whom he is infatuated, Judson Clark flees from the darkness of a ranch house in a western town into a snowstorm, is taken ill, and loses his memory. As Richard Livingstone, physician, he succeeds in New York City and becomes engaged to Elizabeth Wheeler. Ten years later while at a theater show, he is recognized from the stage by Beverly, who had thought her husband's killer had perished in the snow. He is taken to face justice back in Wyoming. Herbert Brenon
Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of silent films through the 1930s. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine “auteur”, controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneers D. W. Griffith. Brenon was among the first directors to achieve celebrity status among moviegoers for his often spectacular cinematic inventions. Among his most notable films are Neptune's Daughter (1914), Peter Pan (1925), A Kiss for Cinderella (1925), and the original film version of Beau Geste (1926). Cyril Ring
Cyril Ring (December 5, 1892July 17, 1967) was an American film actor. He began his career in silent films in 1921. By the time of his final performance in 1951, he had appeared in over 350 films, nearly all of them in small and/or uncredited bit parts. Ring is probably best known today for his role as Harvey Yates, a con artist and accomplice to fellow con artist Penelope, played by Kay Francis in the Marx Brothers first film ''The Cocoanuts'' (1929). He also appeared in uncredited small parts in two other Marx films, '' Monkey Business'' (1931) and '' A Day at the Races'' (1937). Biography Born in Massachusetts, he was the brother of actress Blanche Ring and the first husband of actress/dancer Charlotte Greenwood (from 1915 to 1922; divorced).
