The Blessed (2017 Film)
''The Blessed'', also known as ''Les Bienheureux'', is an Algerian movie that shows a family living in the aftermath of the Algerian war also known as 'the dirty war'. Synopsis Set in 24 hours, the movie centers on a couple who happens to be celebrating their twentieth anniversary and plans a date in a restaurant. The couple gets into a disagreement concerning whether or not to send their son abroad for schooling and they decide to ask their friends about it during the night out. During the dinner, the topic is brought up and it ends up with each of them opining their perspectives concerning the war and country's future. Sofia Djama is an Algerian film director. Her 2017 feature film debut, ''The Blessed'', won three awards at the Venice Film Festival, including the Brian Award, given to the film which "best champions human rights, democracy, pluralism and freedom of thought", and the Lina Mangiacapre Award for a film which "changes the image of women in the cinema". Djama's second short film, ''Softly One Saturday Morning'' (Mollement, un samedi matin), won two prizes at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2012. Sami Bouajila (born 26 May 1966) is a French actor who has won two César Awards. Bouajila has worked and acted in two Oscar nominated films ('' Days of Glory'' and '' Outside the Law''), both directed by director Rachid Bouchareb. Faouzi Bensaïdi ( ar, فوزي بن السعيدي; born 14 March 1967) is a Moroccan film director, actor, screenwriter and artist. Nadia Kaci (; born 1970) is an Algerian actress. Biography Kaci was raised in Algiers by a mother who was "colorful, illiterate, and cultured". She taught her daughter feminism from a young age and played darbouka for the seven children. At age 18, Kaci became worried about the direction of Algeria and the freedoms due to the 1988 October Riots and the rise of Islamic nationalism. When she decided to become an actress, her father refused to speak to her for twenty years. Kaci was encouraged to move to France, but initially refused since she thought it was traitorous.
