''The Best of The Easybeats Volume 2'' is the second compilation album by the Australian rock group The Easybeats. The album was first released on October 9, 1969 by the group's Australian label Albert Productions. The compilation album was released to coincide with the band's 1969 Australian tour. The compilation was later re-issued on the budget Drum label in 1974. It has never been officially issued on compact disc or digitally. However, the songs not released on their original studio albums, can be found on CD throughout the Repertoire reissues of ''Friday On My Mind'', ''Vigil'' and the bonus tracks of the '' Friends'' CD. Reception On release, the album received mixed reviews from the music press due to its use of "demo" recordings, on the album's first side. In their review, ''Go-Set'' commented: "Apart from the dubious production often the Easys are not trying to be themselves but are content to put down the song idea, perhaps even with someone in mind for them". ... The Easybeats
The Easybeats were an Australian rock band that formed in Sydney in late 1964. They enjoyed a level of success that in Australia rivalled The Beatles. They became the first Australian rock act to score an international hit, with the 1966 single " Friday on My Mind", as well as one of the few in Australia to foreground their original material. During their six-year run, they scored 15 top 40 hits in Australia, including "She's So Fine" and " Women (Make You Feel Alright)", with other No. 1 hits including "Friday on My Mind" and " Sorry". They broke up in 1969, and reformed for one tour in 1986. Singer Stevie Wright died in 2015 and rhythm guitarist George Young died in 2017. ''Absolute Anthology 1965 to 1969'' is a compilation album by Australian rock band The Easybeats, released on November 17, 1980. The album was compiled by Australian rock journalist Glenn A. Baker. It features singles, EP, album tracks, unreleased studio & demo recordings and other rarities spanning the group's recording career. It reached #37 on the Australian albums charts. This album was re-released in 1986 on compact disc. ''Good Friday'' is the fourth studio album by The Easybeats, released in May 1967. It was the first album released after the band signed an international recording deal with United Artists Records. The original UK album was released in May 1967. Although "Friday on My Mind" was a big single in the UK, the album failed to make the top 40. History In August 1966, the band relocated from Australia to London after being signed to United Artists Records. Their first recordings in England was to deliver a single to United Artists, using their long-time producer and head of their production company, Ted Albert. The band recorded a number of songs with Ted Albert at EMI's Abbey Road Studios which included "Baby, I'm Coming" and "Mandy". "Lay Me Down and Die" is a song by The Easybeats released as a single in Australia November 1968. It was written by George Young and Harry Vanda. It was first released as an instrumental in September 1968 in the UK as the B-side to the " Good Times" single. The single received poor reviews from the Australian music press, the staff writer for ''Go-Set'' magazine wrote: "The Easybeats are slowly drowning, and they are reaching for the proverbial straw, this record, a straw which can either give (a flop) or hold (a hit)." "Hello, How Are You" is a 1968 song and single by Australian rock group the Easybeats, which was written by band members George Young and Harry Vanda. Background The choice to release "Hello, How Are You" was that of the band's manager Mike Vaughan. The melodramatic ballad was different from anything the group had previously released (being more known for their power pop songs). Recording first took place at Pye Studios in London. The first version of the song was arranged by Bill Shepard (known for his work with The Bee Gees). This version was more of a psychedelic pop song and was ultimately rejected (it was later released on the reissue of ''The Best of The Easybeats Volume 2'' compilation). For the released version, the band turned to arranger Alan Tew for orchestration. "Good Times" (aka "Gonna Have a Good Time") is a song by the Easybeats which was released as a single in Australia 18 July 1968, and which appeared on their ''Vigil'' album with guest vocals by Steve Marriott of Small Faces. It was written by George Young and Harry Vanda. When broadcast on BBC radio it was reputedly heard by Paul McCartney on his car radio; McCartney apparently rang the station immediately to request a repeat playing. Notable cover versions The Clingers "Good Times" was recorded and released in 1969 as "Gonna Have a Good Time Tonight" by four Mormon sisters from Utah. The song was produced by Kim Fowley for Columbia Records but failed to chart.
