''The Best of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds'' is a compilation album by Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 11 May 1998. Cave asked each of the Bad Seeds, past and present, to choose their favourite tracks from the ten albums—their lists would then be discussed until a final list was produced. Only guitarist and founding Bad Seed Mick Harvey responded, and it is his listing, unchanged, that makes up ''The Best Of'', the only exception being “Straight to You” chosen by Cave to represent Henry’s Dream as Harvey’s dislike for the record’s sound caused him to exclude its songs completely from his list. As of 2001 the album has sold 500,000 copies worldwide. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are an Australian rock music, rock band formed in 1983 by vocalist Nick Cave, multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey and guitarist-vocalist Blixa Bargeld. The band has featured international personnel throughout its career and presently consists of Cave, violinist and multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis (musician), Warren Ellis, bassist Martyn P. Casey (all from Australia), guitarist George Vjestica (United Kingdom), keyboardist/percussionist Toby Dammit (United States) and drummers Thomas Wydler (Switzerland) and Jim Sclavunos (United States). Described as "one of the most original and celebrated bands of the post-punk and alternative rock eras in the '80s and onward", they have released seventeen studio albums and completed numerous international tours. "Deanna" is a song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It is the second single from their 1988 album ''Tender Prey''. An acoustic version of the song opens the 2005 compilation '' B-sides & Rarities'' and includes phrases from the Edwin Hawkins Singers' song ''Oh Happy Day'' on which the song was based. PJ Harvey
Polly Jean Harvey (born 9 October 1969) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments. Harvey began her career in 1988 when she joined local band Automatic Dlamini as a vocalist, guitarist and saxophonist. The band's frontman, John Parish, became her long-term collaborator. In 1991, she formed an eponymous trio called PJ Harvey and subsequently began her career as PJ Harvey. "Young Hunting" is a traditional folk song, Roud 47, catalogued by Francis James Child as Child Ballad number 68, and has its origin in Scotland. Like most traditional songs, numerous variants of the song exist worldwide, notably under the title of "Henry Lee" and "Love Henry" in the United States and "Earl Richard" and sometimes "The Proud Girl" in the United Kingdom. The song, which can be traced back as far as the 18th century, narrates the tale of the eponymous protagonist, Young Hunting, who tells a woman, who may have borne him a child, that he is in love with another, more beautiful woman. "The Carny" is a song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds appearing on their fourth studio album '' Your Funeral... My Trial''. It was written by Nick Cave and was recorded in August 1986 at Hansa Tonstudio and Strongroom. Subject The lyrics concern a carnival worker who vanished, highlighted in the words "No one saw the Carny go". As the circus prepares to leave without the missing performer, they find the Carny's horse Sorrow, "so skin and bone", and kill it.
