Pavlov's Dog is a 1970s progressive rock/ AOR band formed in St. Louis, Missouri in 1972, named after Ivan Pavlov's major experimental animal in his work in classical conditioning. History Early years and split Pavlov's Dog originally was composed of vocalist David Surkamp, guitarist Steve Levin, keyboardists David Hamilton and Doug Rayburn, bassist Rick Stockton, drummer Mike Safron, and violinist Siegfried Carver (born Richard Nadler). ''At the Sound of the Bell'' is the second studio album by American progressive rock/ AOR band Pavlov's Dog, released in 1976. Since the previous year's album '' Pampered Menial'', violinist Siegfried Carver and drummer Mike Safron had left the band, being replaced by guitarist Thomas Nickeson and drummer Bill Bruford. Bruford, already famous as a member of Yes, King Crimson and Genesis, joined as a session musician. Several other musicians performed as guests, most notably Grammy Awarded Michael Brecker, Andy Mackay of Roxy Music fame, and guitarist Elliott Randall. The album's cover depicts model Michael Mantel dressed as the Hunchback of Notre-Dame. According to lead singer David Surkamp, "''the band was falling apart''" during the album's recording, as the members "''were all wanting to be songwriters but none of them could write''" except for himself and Doug Rayburn. ''Pampered Menial'' is the debut album by American progressive rock/ AOR band Pavlov's Dog, released in 1975. The album features a line-up comprising David Surkamp, Steve Scorfina, Mike Safron, Rick Stockton, David Hamilton, Doug Rayburn and Siegfried Carver (born Richard Nadler). Carver left the band soon after the album was released. It was first released on ABC Records, debuting on the charts in early April. The LP was soon reissued by Columbia Records, whose version (with slightly different cover) entered the charts in mid-June, just after the ABC issue had dropped off the charts. Album-oriented rock (AOR, originally called album-oriented radio) is an FM radio format created in the United States in the 1970s that focuses on the full repertoire of rock albums and is currently associated with classic rock. However, according to lead singer David Surkamp, "''the band was falling apart''" at the time, the recording sessions were troubled, and Columbia Records "''refused to release''" the album. The band broke up in 1977, and the recordings were supposed to remain unreleased. Yet, the band's guitarist Steve Scorfina had a tape of the mix from which he created 100 unofficial vinyl copies and released them in 1977 as ''The St. Louis Hounds''. Edwin Landseer
Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (7 March 1802 – 1 October 1873) was an English painter and sculptor, well known for his paintings of animals – particularly horses, dogs, and stags. However, his best-known works are the lion sculptures at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square. Life Landseer was born in London, the son of the engraver John Landseer A.R.A. and Jane Potts. He was something of a prodigy whose artistic talents were recognised early on.
