The Artist Toolbox
The Artist Toolbox is an interview program on Public Broadcasting Service, PBS, hosted by Emmy Award winning writer/director John Jacobsen. The program focuses on the creative process of a selection of master-level artists in disciplines such as music, architecture, comedy, fashion, acting, ballet, writing, design, etc. The Artist Toolbox premiered nationwide in the United States on January 7, 2011 and subsequently played on Alaska Airlines and in many international countries. The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is an American public broadcaster and non-commercial, free-to-air television network based in Arlington, Virginia. Irina Dvorovenko
Irina Vladimirovna Dvorovenko ( uk, Ірина Володимирівна Дворовенко; russian: Ирина Владимировна Дворовенко; born 28 August 1973) is a Ukrainian-American retired ballet dancer and actress. She was a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. Early life Dvorovenko was born in Kyiv, Ukraine during the Ukrainian SSR, Soviet period. Her parents are dancers. She started with gymnastics before entering the Kyiv Ballet#Kyiv Ballet School, Kyiv Ballet School at the age of ten. Career Ballet In 1990, Dvorovenko joined the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Kyiv as a soloist, and was promoted to principal dancer in 1992. TheFilmSchool is a non-profit film program located in Seattle, Washington, that focuses on intensive training in screenwriting and directing. TheFilmSchool's mission statement 'to elevate the art of cinematic storytelling' guides the curriculum to heavily emphasize character, structure, and understanding the principles of storytelling. The program was founded in 2003 by Stewart Stern, John Jacobsen, Rick Stevenson, Warren Etheredge, and Tom Skerritt. Contests TheFilmSchool launched the Great American Short Screenplay Contest in 2008, in partnership with the Seattle International Film Festival. Christopher McQuarrie, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of '' The Usual Suspects'', called TheFilmSchool "probably the best place in the world to study story." John Jacobsen
John Martin Jacobsen (born 27 December 1944) is a Norwegian film producer. He is the leader of the Norwegian production company Filmkameratene, and has produced more than 30 Norwegian movies. Jacobsen has received several awards for his work. In 2003 he was awarded the Amanda Committee's Honorary Award. In 2008 he was appointed commander of the Order of St. Olav, for the work he has done for Norwegian film. Jacobsen grew up in Osterhaus gate, Oslo. His mother was a stay-at-home mom, and his dad was a ship officer. He lived right next to a cinema, where he spent a lot of time. He started earning money by delivering newspapers, but as a 15 year old he got hired by the local cinema. The man in charge of the cinema realized that Jacobsen had an extreme interest for film, and wanted him to be in charge of setting up their film program, earning 2% of the turnover. Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis Jr. (May 27, 1935 – September 12, 2022) was an American jazz piano, jazz pianist, composer, and radio personality. Lewis recorded over 80 albums and received five RIAA certification, gold records and three Grammy Awards in his career. His album ''The In Crowd (Ramsey Lewis album), The In Crowd'' earned Lewis critical praise and the 1965 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance. David Garrett (musician)
David Christian Bongartz (born 4 September 1980), known by his stage name David Garrett, is a German classical and crossover violinist and recording artist. Early life When Garrett was four years old his father purchased a violin for his older brother. The young Garrett took an interest and soon learned to play. A year later, he took part in a competition and won first prize. By the age of seven, he studied violin at the Lübeck Conservatoire. When he was nine years old he gave his debut at the Festival Kissinger Sommer, and by the age of 12, Garrett began working with the distinguished Polish violinist Ida Haendel, often traveling to London and other European cities to meet her. Hugh Newell Jacobsen
Hugh Newell Jacobsen (March 11, 1929 – March 4, 2021) was an American architect. He was noted for designing Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' home in Martha's Vineyard during the 1980s. He also restored part of the U.S. Embassy in Paris, as well as Spaso House in Moscow. Early life Jacobsen was born on March 11, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Lucy Ellen (Newell) and John Edwall Jacobsen. His father was initially employed as a meat importer and later worked for the War Shipping Administration during World War II. Consequently, the Jacobsen family moved to Washington, D.C., and he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947. Jacobsen went on to study fine arts at the University of Maryland, obtaining a bachelor's degree in 1951. Although he originally intended to become a portrait painter, his father advised him to go into architecture for its job security. Massimo Vignelli
Massimo Vignelli (; January 10, 1931 – May 27, 2014) was an Italian designer who worked in a number of areas including packaging, houseware, furniture, public signage, and showroom design. He was the co-founder of Vignelli Associates, with his wife, Lella Vignelli, Lella. His motto was, "If you can design one thing, you can design everything," which the broad range of his work reflects. Vignelli worked firmly within the modernism, modernist tradition. His style stressed simplicity by using basic geometry, geometric shapes. Life Vignelli studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and later at the Università Iuav di Venezia.
