''The Animal Kingdom'' () is a 2023 French-Belgian science fantasy dramatic adventure film directed by Thomas Cailley and written by Cailley and Pauline Munier. It stars Romain Duris, Paul Kircher and Adèle Exarchopoulos. It had its world premiere as the opening film of the Un Certain Regard section at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on 17 May 2023. It was released in France on 4 October 2023 to mostly positive reviews. It received a leading 12 nominations at the 49th César Awards, and won 5 awards: Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Original Music, Best Costume Design and Best Visual Effects. Thomas Cailley (born 29 April 1980) is a French screenwriter and film director. In 2014, he made his feature directorial debut with ''Love at First Fight (film), Love at First Fight'', which won three César Awards including César Award for Best First Feature Film, Best First Feature Film. Biography Born in Clermont-Ferrand, Cailley studied at Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux, Sciences Po Bordeaux. Landes De Gascogne
The Landes de Gascogne (in Gascon, classic spelling ''las Lanas de Gasconha'', Fébusienne spelling ''leus Lanes de Gascougne''), or Gascony Moors, is a natural region of France of nearly . It extends over three departments: Gironde, Landes and Lot-et-Garonne, and includes 386 communes. The region is a flat, sandy plain in the west of the Aquitaine Basin beside the Atlantic Ocean. The interior is cut off from the sea by a barrier of dunes. It is dominated by pine forests that cover 66% of the territory, with islets of agriculture over 18% of the territory.
