''The Age of Entitlement'' is the fourth studio album by The Basics. It was released on 14 August 2015 both digitally and physically. The album title is pulled from the title of Australian Treasurer Joe Hockey's infamous 2014 budget speech. The album was the first after the band reunited in 2012, and followed the success of Wally de Backer as a solo artist under the name Gotye and a period of Kris Schroeder working in Kenya with the Red Cross. The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios from 28 March 2014 to 2 April 2014, and was mixed by chief engineer Peter Cobbin. The Basics (band)
The Basics ( ) are an Australian band, formed by Wally De Backer and Kris Schroeder in 2002, later joined by Tim Heath. Their style has been described as anything from 'indie-pop' to 'rock'n'roll', though their records show they span a wide range of genres, including reggae, pop-rock, folk, country, and electro-pop. They are "recognised as one of Australia's hardest-working bands". With well over 2500 shows under their belt, their live performances are well known for their energy, sense of humour and proto-punk sensibilities. ''In the Rude!'' is the third live album by The Basics. It was released on 21 May 2017. The release date coincides with band member Wally De Backer's 37th birthday. The album commemorates the band's 15-year anniversary since their formation in 2002. ''The Music'', (formerly known as and now incorporating ''Drum Media)'', is an online Australian music magazine. It previously existed as a street press devoted to long-form music journalism and commentary, music news, and artist interviews. In its printed form, it was based in Sydney, NSW and distributed throughout Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle and Canberra, and surrounding areas. Joe Hockey
Joseph Benedict Hockey (born 2 August 1965) is a former Australian politician and diplomat. He was the Member of Parliament for North Sydney from 1996 until 2015. He was the Treasurer of Australia in the Abbott Government from 18 September 2013 until September 2015 when he resigned from Cabinet, having refused an alternative offer from the incoming Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull. He previously served as the Minister for Human Services and Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations in the Howard Government. He also served as Ambassador of Australia to the United States from January 2016 until January 2020. Gotye
Wouter André "Wally" De Backer (born 21 May 1980), better known by his stage name Gotye ( ), is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. The name "Gotye" is a pronunciation respelling of "Gauthier", the French cognate of his Dutch given name "Wouter". Gotye has released three studio albums independently and one album featuring remixes of tracks from his first two albums. He is a founding member of the Melbourne indie-pop trio The Basics, who have independently released four studio albums and numerous other titles since 2002. Abbey Road Studios (formerly EMI Recording Studios) is a recording studio at 3 Abbey Road, St John's Wood, City of Westminster, London, England. It was established in November 1931 by the Gramophone Company, a predecessor of British music company EMI, which owned it until Universal Music Group (UMG) took control of part of it in 2013. It is ultimately owned by UMG subsidiary Virgin Records Limited (until 2013 by EMI Records Limited, nowadays known as Parlophone Records and owned by UMG's competitor Warner Music Group).
