Thaumogenesis
Thaumogenesis is the seventh full-length album by drone doom band Nadja, it was released in January 2007 by aRCHIVE recordings. It consists of only one long instrumental track lasting over 60 minutes, and the album was limited to 600 copies. The album was rereleased in March 2008, with slightly different artwork. This issue of the album is limited to 500 copies only. The title is from the American TV series ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'', then later in ''Angel'', " The Price". Thaumogenesis means to inadvertently create a being as a byproduct of casting a spell. Aidan Baker
Aidan Baker (born 1974/75) is a musician from Toronto, Ontario, Canada who has released numerous records both as a solo artist and as part of various side projects, including Nadja, ARC, Caudal and Mnemosyne. He is married to Nadja bandmate, Leah Buckareff. Style Baker utilizes a very experimental style of playing guitar, influenced by artists such as Caspar Brötzmann, James Plotkin, Steve Albini, and Justin Broadrick. Nadja (band)
Nadja is a Canadian duo of Aidan Baker (guitars, vocals, piano, woodwinds, drums) and Leah Buckareff (bass, vocals). Nadja began in 2003 as a solo project for Baker to explore the heavier and noisier side of his experimental ambient music performed mainly on the electric guitar. In 2005 Buckareff joined in order to make the project more than just a studio endeavour and to allow Nadja to perform live. The band's name comes from Aidan's name spelled backwards in order to match the concept of a musical style different from his own work. The J replacing the I is, according to Aidan, a reference to the Nadja character from André Breton's book of the same name and Elina Löwensohn's character from the 1994 vampire movie. Drone Metal
Drone metal or drone doom is a style of heavy metal that melds the slow tempos and heaviness of doom metal with the long-duration tones of drone music. Drone metal is sometimes associated with post-metal or experimental metal. Characteristics Typically, the electric guitar is performed with a large amount of reverb or audio feedback while vocals may or may not be present. Songs often lack beat or rhythm in the traditional sense and are typically very long. The experience of a drone metal performance has been compared by novelist John Wray in ''The New York Times'' to listening to an Indian raga in the middle of an earthquake.
