"That's the Way I Feel About Cha" is a 1972 single co-written, produced and recorded by American rhythm and blues/soul music performer, Bobby Womack, and also became the musician's first crossover Top 40 single on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, reaching number 27. On the US ''Billboard'' R&B chart it peaked at number two, starting a four-year run of R&B hits for Womack during that decade. The single, co-written by Womack, John Grisby and Joe Hicks, was the second release off Womack's ''Communication'' album. It put Womack on the musical map as a solo artist, after he started his career as lead singer of the family musical group The Valentinos, and a period where he achieved success as a sideman for soul acts such as Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett, and rock singers such as Janis Joplin and Sly Stone. Robert Dwayne Womack (; March 4, 1944 – June 27, 2014) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Starting in the early 1950s as the lead singer of his family musical group the Valentinos and as Sam Cooke's backing guitarist, Womack's career spanned more than 60 years and multiple styles, including rhythm and blues, R&B, jazz, soul music, soul, rock and roll, doo-wop, and gospel music, gospel. Womack was a prolific songwriter who wrote and originally recorded, (with his brothers, the Valentinos), the Rolling Stones' first UK number one hit ("It's All Over Now") and New Birth (band), New Birth's "I Can Understand It". A sideman is a professional musician who is hired to perform live with a solo artist, or with a group in which they are not a regular band member. The term is usually used to describe musicians that play with jazz or rock artists, whether solo or a group. Sidemen and sidewomen are generally required to be adaptable to many different styles of music, and so able to fit smoothly into the group in which they are currently playing. Jimmy Johnson (session Guitarist)
Jimmy Ray Johnson (February 4, 1943 – September 5, 2019) was an American session guitarist and record producer. Johnson was a member of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section who was attached to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, for a period in the 1960s. In 1969, with the backing of Atlantic Records executive Jerry Wexler, Johnson became a co-founder of the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, along with drummer Roger Hawkins, bassist David Hood, and keyboardist Barry Beckett. The studio was originally located at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield and later moved to 1000 Alabama Avenue, also in Sheffield. Johnson performed with Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin. He also engineered three tracks on the Rolling Stones' album ''Sticky Fingers''. He died from kidney failure in 2019 at the age of 76. In music performances, rhythm guitar is a technique and role that performs a combination of two functions: to provide all or part of the rhythmic pulse in conjunction with other instruments from the rhythm section (e.g., drum kit, bass guitar); and to provide all or part of the harmony, i.e. the chords from a song's chord progression, where a chord is a group of notes played together. ''Hey Now Hey (The Other Side of the Sky)'' is the nineteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Aretha Franklin. Released in mid-1973 by Atlantic Records, it was the first Atlantic album by Franklin to miss the Top 25 of the main ''Billboard'' chart, peaking at #30, and reaching #2 on the R&B albums listing. This album was originally planned to be a straight jazz album with songs like "Moody's Mood" and "Just Right Tonight", but producers Franklin and Quincy Jones took a detour and produced songs like "Mister Spain" and the title cut. Other notable songs include the No. 1 R&B and top 20 pop single "Angel" written by Franklin's younger sister Carolyn, as well as a cover of " Somewhere" which features Franklin on piano and Phil Woods on alto saxophone. This recording was reissued on compact disc through Rhino Records in the 1990s.
