Thai Queer Cinema
Thai queer cinema is a category of Thai films that in some way represent non-normative gender and sexuality. In other words, the narratives explored in Thai queer cinema go beyond heterosexual relationships and the male-female gender binary. The classification of this genre of Thai film as "queer" rather than LGBT, is used by film scholars, Brett Farmer, Oradol Kaewprasert, Karl Schoonover, and Rosalind Galt, in an effort to fully capture the range of Thai gender and sexuality, or phet (Thai: เพศ, RTGS: phet) portrayed in film which may not be accurately represented through Western LGBT terminology. Thai language scholar, Monruedee Laphimon, defines phet as gendered desires, expressions, behaviors, and sexual activities within a spectrum of masculinity and femininity. Heterosexuality
Heterosexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior between people of the opposite sex or gender. As a sexual orientation, heterosexuality is "an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions" to people of the opposite sex; it "also refers to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors, and membership in a community of others who share those attractions." Someone who is heterosexual is commonly referred to as ''straight.'' Along with bisexuality and homosexuality, heterosexuality is one of the three main categories of sexual orientation within the heterosexual–homosexual continuum. Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Festival (; french: link=no, Festival de Cannes), until 2003 called the International Film Festival (') and known in English as the Cannes Film Festival, is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including Documentary film, documentaries, from all around the world. Cheerleader Queens
''Cheerleader Queens'' ( th, ว้ายบึ้ม! เชียร์กระหึ่มโลก; aka ''I'm Lady'') is a 2003 Thai film directed by Poj Arnon. Plot Four kathoey—Mod, Som, Kam-pang and Wa-wa—move from a rural town to attend St. Mary's High School in Bangkok. Once there they try to join the school's cheerleading team, only to be rejected because of their sexuality. Instead they join the school's struggling rugby team, making friends with the other team members after they score a number of tries in an important game. Toey, another kathoey from the boys hometown, comes to Bangkok with the idea of forming a new cheerleading team, which they name "The Queen". From the start the boys have to face a number of problems, but with the help of their friends on the rugby team they manage to get to the finals of the national cheerleading competition. ''The Blue Hour'' ( th, อนธการ; ) is a 2015 Thai horror film directed by Anucha Boonyawatana. It was screened in the Panorama section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. Plot This gay romance-horror tells a story of a bullied teenager Tam ( Atthaphan Phunsawat) who befriends and has a sexual relationship with a mysterious gay boy Phum (Oabnithi Wiwattanawarang) at a haunted abandoned pool. A gay romantic crime action drama, it is the story of a man who falls in love with a gunman assigned to kill him. Plot A loner gunman named Maek is assigned to kidnap a police informant named Iht, but Maek has a change of heart when he takes Iht to the 'hit house'. Maek is ordered to kill Iht, but because he only kills scum and has discovered that Iht isn't bad, he refuses, turning the gun on the enforcers who had hired him to murder Iht. A gun battle ensues during which Maek is wounded, but Iht grabs Maek's gun and shoots their way out of the mobsters' headquarters. The two men then escape on Maek's motorcycle.
