Thady O'Gorman
Thady O'Gorman (30 May 1874 – 15 July 1944) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Tralee Mitchels and was an All-Ireland Championship-winning captain with the Kerry senior football team. Playing career Born in Tralee, O'Gorman first played Gaelic football when he joined the Tralee Mitchels club as a 17-year-old. He won three county senior championship medals with the club between 1897 and 1903, captaining the team in the latter year. O'Gorman first lined out for the Kerry senior team at the age of 20 but enjoyed his greatest success at the end of his career. In 1903 he became the first player to captain Kerry to the All-Ireland Championship, before claiming a second successive winners' medal the following year. O'Gorman also claimed back-to-back Munster Championship medals during this time. Personal life O'Gorman lived in Tralee his entire life and worked as printer with ''The Kerryman'' newspaper. Tralee Mitchels GAA
Tralee Mitchels were a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland before the formation of the three Tralee clubs namely John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's. They were one of the top teams in the county winning Football County Championships in 1896, 1897, 1902, 1903, 1907, 1908, 1910, 1917 and 1919. They also won three Hurling County Championship in 1908, 1911, 1912 The first recorded meeting of Tralee Mitchels club officers was on 29 January 1888 at the Young Ireland Society Rooms. In team sport, captain is a title given to a member of the team. The title is frequently honorary, but in some cases the captain may have significant responsibility for strategy and teamwork while the game is in progress on the field. In either case, it is a position that indicates honor and respect from one's teammates – recognition as a leader by one's peers. In association football and cricket, a captain is also known as a skipper. Various sports have differing roles and responsibilities for team captains. Jack Dempsey (Gaelic Footballer)
Jack Dempsey (1878 – 10 December 1913) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. His championship career at senior level with the Dublin county team lasted six seasons from 1902 until 1907. In spite of being a native of Wexford, Dempsey enjoyed his greatest club success as a member of the Bray Emmets club. He won his sole county senior championship medal in 1901. Dempsey made his debut on the inter-county scene as a member of the Dublin senior football team during the 1902 championship. Over the course of the next six seasons, he won three All-Ireland medals, beginning with a lone victory as captain of the team in 1902, followed by back-to-back championships in 1906 and 1907. Demspey also won four Leinster medals. Dempsey died from tuberculosis on 10 December 1913. Austin Stack
Augustine Mary Moore Stack (7 December 1879 – 27 April 1929) was an Irish republican and politician who served as Minister for Home Affairs from 1921 to 1922. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1918 to 1927. Early life Stack was born in Ballymullen, Tralee, County Kerry, to William Stack, an attorney's clerk, and Nanette O'Neill. He was educated at the Christian Brothers School in Tralee. At the age of fourteen, he left school and became a clerk in a solicitor's office. A gifted Gaelic footballer, he captained the Kerry team to All-Ireland victory in 1904. He also served as President of the Kerry Gaelic Athletic Association County Board. Activism He became politically active in 1908 when he joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood. In 1916, as commandant of the Kerry Brigade of the Irish Volunteers, he made preparations for the landing of arms by Roger Casement. Eugene O'Sullivan (Irish Politician)
Eugene O'Sullivan (1879 – 19 May 1942) was an Irish nationalist politician and farmer, who was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kerry in January 1910, but was unseated on petition shortly afterwards. Sporting career Joining the Dr Crokes club in the 1890s as a playing member he captained the great club team which won the 1901 Kerry Senior Football Championship and up to 1905 was a regular member. He played with and captained the Kerry team 1902–1904 and was also a regular member of the Killarney hurling team. In 1903 he was elected chairman of the Kerry Co. Board and under his guidance for the next five years the Co. Board was very active and the Kerry footballers broke through for national recognition.
