Texas House Of Representatives, District 5
District 5 is a district in the Texas House of Representatives. It was created in the 3rd legislature (1849-1851). The district has been represented by Republican Cole Hefner since January 10, 2017, upon his initial election to the Texas House. As a result of redistricting after the 2020 Federal census, from the 2022 elections the district encompasses all of Camp, Rains, Titus, Upshur, and Wood Counties, and the northern half of Smith County. Major cities in the district include Emory, Gilmer, Lindale, Mineola, Mount Pleasant, Pittsburg,and Quitman. Cole Hefner
Joseph Cole Hefner, known as Cole Hefner (born November 13, 1980), is a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives from Mount Pleasant, Texas. He was first elected in 2016 to represent the 5th District and assumed office in January 2017. He succeeded Bryan Hughes, who was instead elected to the Texas Senate. Hefner handily won a second legislative term in the general election held on November 6, 2018. Lake Tawakoni
Lake Tawakoni ( ) is a reservoir located in Northeast Texas, about east of Dallas. It lies within three Texas counties, Hunt, Rains, and Van Zandt. It is used for water supply and recreation. It is under the Sabine River Authority of Texas and the original headwaters of the Sabine are converged under the lake surface. Etymology The lake was named for the Tawakoni Native American peoples, who were a larger part of the Caddo Nation. The Caddos inhabited a large swath of North and East Texas, including where the lake is located. History The reservoir was constructed in 1960 with the Iron Bridge Dam. The area was chosen due to its location to the growing Dallas area and the growth east of the city and its respective suburbs. The South Fork, Cowleech Fork, and Caddo Forks that all formed the Sabine River headwaters are now submerged under the lake and the lake now serves as the headwaters of the Sabine. Grayson County, Texas
Grayson County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 135,543. The county seat is Sherman. The county was founded in 1846 and is named after Peter Wagener Grayson, an attorney general of the Republic of Texas. Grayson County is included in the Sherman- Denison metropolitan statistical area, which is also included in the Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington, combined statistical area. Houston County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 22,066. Its county seat is Crockett. Houston County was one of 46 entirely dry counties in the state of Texas, until voters in a November 2007 special election legalized the sale of alcohol in the county.
