Armando Martinez (politician)
Armando Martinez (born January 6, 1976) is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives from District 39, serving since 2005. Martinez is also a firefighter and paramedic. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. On January 1, 2017, Martinez was seriously wounded in the head by a stray bullet during a New Year's celebration, a case of celebratory gunfire. The 2004 Texas House of Representatives elections took place as part of the biennial United States elections. Texas voters elected state representatives in all 150 State House of Representatives districts. The winners of this election served in the 79th Texas Legislature. State representatives serve for two-year terms. Republicans maintained control of the House, losing one seat to the Democrats. Background Following the 2002 elections, the Republicans gained control of the House with 88 seats to the Democrats' 62, giving them a governmental trifecta for the first time since Reconstruction. Hidalgo County (; ) is located in the U.S. state of Texas. The county seat is Edinburg and the largest city is McAllen. The county is named for Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the priest who raised the call for Mexico's independence from Spain.
