The Tersmeden family, originally ''tor Smede'', is a noble Swedish family originally from Stade that rose to prominence in the 15th-century with Thomas tor Smede, founder of one of the most prominent trading companies in northern Germany. The family was elevated to Nobility, noble rank in the Kingdom of Sweden in 1751, and got introduced at the House of Nobility (Sweden), House of Nobility in 1752. The Tersmeden family consists of several branches of different noble ranks. During the 19th century, the Tersmeden family possessed several ironworks, where they made a fortune. The family's wealth declined over the 20th century, once they had wound up their business interests in ironworks. Jacob Tersmeden
Wohlgeboren, Wohlgebogen Jacob Tersmeden (20 May 1712 – 9 February 1767) was a Swedish nobleman, ironmaster, Assessor (law), assessor and member of the Riksdag of the Estates representing the House of Nobility (Sweden), House of Nobility, and brother of renowned diarist Carl Tersmeden. Life Early years Jacob Tersmeden was born on 20 May 1712 in Larsbo, Söderbärke, Dalarna, the son of Jacob Tersmeden and Elisabeth Gangia. He was brought up on his father's estate close to Söderbärke. Education Tersmeden started to study at Uppsala University, aged eight, in 1720. He was enrolled as a student at the Swedish Board of Mines, aged sixteen, to study mineralogy. Instead of continuing studying sciences, he started to shoulder administrative tasks at Larsbo bruk. Career Tersmeden served as ironmaster to Ramnäs. Carl Reinhold Tersmeden
Carl Reinhold Tersmeden (9 February 1789 – 21 July 1855), was a Swedish Army ''ryttmästare'' and politician. He served as the first chairperson of the first reform meeting in Örebro ( sv, Reformmötena i Örebro). Early life Carl Reinhold Tersmeden was born into the Tersmeden family, at Larsbo, but grew up at the family estate 27 kilometres (43 mi) northeast of Örebro, Sweden, and 190 kilometres (305 mi) west of Stockholm. He was the second of four children to ironmaster Jakob Niclas Tersmeden (1745–1822) and Hedvig Wegelin (1766–1842). Career After having advanced as quartermaster at Life Regiment Hussars in 1807, he was commissioned as cornet in the same year and was three years later promoted to lieutenant there. Carl Tersmeden
Carl Tersmeden (23 April 1715 – 25 December 1797) was a Swedish admiral and diarist. Life Early years Carl Tersmeden was born on 23 April 1715 at Larsbo, Dalarna, as the son of Jacob Tersmeden the Elder and Elisabeth Gangia and thus the younger brother of Jacob Tersmeden the Younger. His father had good connections in the Swedish Navy, such as Claes Sparre, allowing Carl to rise rapidly through the ranks and fight in several Swedish naval engagements of the 1700s. Literary career Tersmeden also wrote lengthy memoirs under the title ''Lefnadsjournaler'', which finally totalled some 11,000 folio pages and are often detailed descriptions of society, his own deeds, naval battles and the performance of the Gustafs skål on revolution-night, 19 August 1772, in honour of Gustav III of Sweden. Hedvig Tersmeden (née Wegelin 31 October 1766 – 18 August 1842) was a Swedish noblewoman, Swedish artists' model, known for being the depicted woman in a painting by Carl Fredrik von Breda named '' Hedvig Wegelin with daughters''. Hedvig Wegelin is a direct ancestor of the Hereditary Princess of Liechtenstein. Biography Wegelin was born into a bourgeoisie Stockholm family on 31 October 1766. She was the daughter of Johan Wegelin, a native of Swedish Livonia, and Hedvig Schméer. She moved from Stockholm to the estate of Hinseberg, but later died in Kägleholm. Hinseberg
Hinseberg Manor ( sv, Hinsebergs herrgård) is a women's prison as of today but has formerly served as a residence for several Bourgeoisie, bourgeois and noble families. The property is located next to lake Väringen in Frövi, Sweden. The manor that exists today was built in 1803 by Jacob Niclas Tersmeden (1745–1822).
