Terry O'Grady
Terence O'Grady (10 April 1934 – 12 January 1987) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played at representative level for Great Britain and England, and at club level for Oldham ( Heritage № 567), Wigan ( Heritage № 575) and Warrington, as a . Career While at Oldham, O'Grady won caps for England in 1952 against Wales and in 1955 against Other Nationalities, and played for Great Britain on the 1954 Great Britain Lions tour against Australia and New Zealand. He also appeared against New Zealand in 1961. During O'Grady's time at the club, Oldham were defeated 2-12 by Barrow in the 1954 Lancashire Cup Final during the 1954–55 season at Station Road, Swinton, on 23 October 1954. Two years later, however, Oldham secured the 1956 Lancashire Cup with a 10-3 victory over St. Helens during the 1956–57 season. Oldham, Lancashire
Oldham is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, amid the Pennines and between the rivers Irk and Medlock, southeast of Rochdale and northeast of Manchester. It is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, which had a population of 237,110 in 2019. Barrow Raiders
The Barrow Raiders are a semi-professional rugby league team in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. The club was formed in 1875 as Barrow Football Club. For the 1995–96 and 1996 seasons the club was known as Barrow Braves, becoming the Barrow Border Raiders for the 1997 season following a merger with Carlisle Border Raiders, dropping the Border part of the name in 2002 to become the Barrow Raiders. The 1961–62 Northern Rugby Football League season was the 67th season of rugby league football. Season summary Huddersfield won their seventh Championship when they beat Wakefield Trinity 14-5 in the play-off final. The Challenge Cup winners were Wakefield Trinity who beat Huddersfield 12-6 in the final. At the end of this season the league was split into two divisions. The top 16 in the league formed Division 1 and the bottom 14 formed Division 2. Wigan won the Lancashire League, and Wakefield Trinity won the Yorkshire League. Workington Town R.L.F.C. is a semi-professional rugby league club playing in Workington in west Cumbria. Their stadium is Derwent Park, which they share with Workington Comets, a speedway team. Try (rugby)
A try is a way of scoring points in rugby union and rugby league football. A try is scored by grounding the ball in the opposition's in-goal area (on or behind the goal line). Rugby union and league differ slightly in defining "grounding the ball" and the "in-goal" area. In rugby union a try is worth 5 points, in rugby league a try is worth 4 points. The term "try" comes from "try at goal", signifying that grounding the ball originally only gave the attacking team the opportunity to try to score with a kick at goal. A try is analogous to a touchdown in American and Canadian football, with the major difference being that a try requires the ball be simultaneously touching the ground and an attacking player, whereas a touchdown merely requires that the ball enter the end zone while in the possession of a player.
