Terry Jones (Ontario Politician)
Terry David Jones (June 13, 1938 - March 21, 2014) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1975 to 1985 as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Background Jones was born in Toronto, and educated at the University of Toronto. He worked for his family building cottages in Muskoka. Later he established an insurance business in Streetsville, Ontario. Politics He was elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1975 provincial election, defeating New Democratic Party candidate David Busby by 385 votes in Mississauga North. In 1976, Jones chaired a commission which established the provincial drinking age at nineteen. He defeated Busby again by a greater margin in the 1977 election, and won by a significant majority in 1981. A Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) is an elected member of the Legislative Assembly of the Canadian province of Ontario. 1977 Ontario General Election
The 1977 Ontario general election was held on June 9, 1977, to elect the 125 members of the 31st Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The Progressive Conservative Party, led by Premier Bill Davis, was re-elected for an eleventh consecutive term in office, again with a minority in the legislature. The PCs won an additional seven seats, but were not able to win a majority. The Liberal Party, led by Dr. Stuart Smith, lost one seat compared to its result in the previous election, but formed the Official Opposition because the NDP lost more seats. The New Democratic Party, led by Stephen Lewis, lost five seats, and losing the status of Official Opposition to the Liberals. Sheila Copps, future federal cabinet minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, made her political debut in this election, finishing second in the riding of Hamilton Centre. Dick Treleaven
Richard L. Treleaven (born July 11, 1934) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1981 to 1987, as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Frank Stuart Miller
Frank Stuart Miller (May 14, 1927 – July 21, 2000) was a Canadian politician who served as the 19th premier of Ontario for four months in 1985. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1971 as a Progressive Conservative member of the central Ontario riding of Muskoka. He served in the cabinet of Premier Bill Davis in several portfolios including Minister of Health and Minister of Natural Resources. He also served five years as the Treasurer of Ontario. When Davis announced his pending resignation in 1985, Miller vied for the leadership of the party and won over a slate of three other candidates. Bill Davis
William Grenville Davis, (July 30, 1929 – August 8, 2021) was a Canadian politician who served as the 18th premier of Ontario from 1971 to 1985. Davis was first elected as the member of provincial Parliament for Peel in the 1959 provincial election where he was a backbencher in the Conservative caucus led by Premier Leslie Frost. Under John Robarts, he was minister of education. During this period, he created the community college system and the network now known as TVOntario. He succeeded Robarts as the premier of Ontario and held the position until resigning in 1985. The 1981 Ontario general election was held on March 19, 1981, to elect members of the 32nd Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, Canada. The governing Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, led by Bill Davis, was re-elected for a twelfth consecutive term in office.
