Termes De La Ley
''Expositiones terminorum legum Angliae'' (in French, translated into English, 1527; reprinted 1629, 1636, 1641, &c., as ''Les Termes de la Ley'') is a book by John Rastell. It, and ''The Abbreviacion of Statutis'' (1519), are the best known of his legal works. ''Termes'' was also published under the title ''An Exposition of Certaine Difficult and Obscure Wordes and Termes of the Lawes of This Realme''. It is a law dictionary. Lord Kenyon said that it is "a very excellent book". Duke LJ. said that this book was "a work of very good authority and the application of the common law". John Rastell
John Rastell (or Rastall) (c. 1475 – 1536) was an English printer, author, member of parliament, and barrister. Life Born in Coventry, he is vaguely reported by Anthony à Wood to have been "educated for a time in grammaticals and philosophicals" at Oxford. He became a member of Middle Temple, and practised as a barrister, but established a printing business in London c.1512. He also devised pagaentries for the king. Amongst works he published, in a preface to ''Liber assisarum et placitorum corone'' (1514?) he announced the forthcoming publication of Sir Anthony Fitzherbert's ''Abbreviamentum librorum legum Anglorum'', dated 1516. Among the works issued from the "sygne of the meremayd at Powlysgate," where he lived and worked from 1520 onwards, are ''The Mery Gestys of the Wydow Edyth'' (1525), and ''A Dyaloge of Syr Thomas More'' (1529). ''The Abbreviacion of Statutis'' (1519), of which fifteen editions appeared before 1625, is a book by John Rastell. It, and Termes de la Ley, are the best known of his legal works. Lord Kenyon
Lloyd Kenyon, 1st Baron Kenyon (5 October 1732 – 4 April 1802), was a British politician and barrister, who served as Attorney General, Master of the Rolls and Lord Chief Justice. Born to a country gentleman, he was initially educated in Hanmer before moving to Ruthin School aged 12. Rather than going to university he instead worked as a clerk to an attorney, joining the Middle Temple in 1750 and being called to the Bar in 1756. Initially almost unemployed due to the lack of education and contacts which a university education would have provided, his business increased thanks to his friendships with John Dunning, who, overwhelmed with cases, allowed Kenyon to work many, and Lord Thurlow who secured for him the Chief Justiceship of Chester in 1780. John Gage Marvin (1815–1855) was an American lawyer, known as a legal bibliographer and figure of the history of California. Early life He was born at Le Raysville, Pennsylvania, and was educated at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He then taught at Athens Academy, Athens, Pennsylvania from 1840.Michael H.
