Tequila Sunrise (cocktail)
The tequila sunrise is a cocktail made of tequila, orange juice, and grenadine syrup. The drink is served unmixed in a tall glass. The modern drink originates from Sausalito, California, in the early 1970s after an earlier iteration created in the 1930s in Phoenix, Arizona. The cocktail is named for its appearance when served—with gradations of color resembling a sunrise. History The original tequila sunrise contained tequila, creme de cassis, lime juice, and soda water, and was served at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel where it was created by Gene Sulit in the 1930s or 1940s. The more popular modern version of the cocktail contains tequila, orange juice, and grenadine, and was created by Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice in the early 1970s while working as young bartenders at the Trident in Sausalito, California north of San Francisco. In 1972, at a private party at the Trident organized by Bill Graham to kick off the Rolling Stones' 1972 tour in America, Mick Jagger had one of the ...

Tequila Sunrise (film)
''Tequila Sunrise'' is a 1988 American romantic crime film written and directed by Robert Towne. It stars Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kurt Russell, with Raul Julia, J. T. Walsh, Arliss Howard, and Gabriel Damon in supporting roles. The original music score was composed by Dave Grusin. The film, only the second (after '' Personal Best'') to be both written and directed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Towne, was commercially successful, grossing over $100 million at the box office worldwide, but critical reception was mixed. One reviewer was of the opinion that, "perhaps because the elements were so irresistible—Robert Towne directing Gibson, Russell and Pfeiffer in a California crime film—an aura of disappointment settled over ''Tequila Sunrise'', no matter how engaging, and profitable, it turned out to be." ''Tequila Sunrise'' was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. The film's soundtrack spawned the single " Surrender to Me", performed by An ...

Tequila Sunrise (song)
"Tequila Sunrise" is a 1973 song written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, and recorded by the Eagles. It was the first single from the band's second album, ''Desperado''. The song peaked at number 64 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. A cover version was recorded by country music singer Alan Jackson on the 1993 tribute album '' Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles''. It peaked at number 64 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Background Glenn Frey and Don Henley did not write songs together for their debut album, ''Eagles'', and they decided that they should collaborate after they had finished recording the debut album in London. In the first week of their collaboration, they wrote "Tequila Sunrise" and "Desperado". According to Frey, the song was finished fairly quickly. He said he was lying on a couch playing the guitar, and came up with a guitar riff he described as "kinda Roy Orbison, kinda Mexican". He showed Henley the guitar riff and said: "Maybe we should ...

Reception ''IV'' received mixed reviews from critics, with AllMusic giving it a strongly negative review. ''Rolling Stone'' - 3.5 Stars (out of 5) - "Cypress Hill's most bangin' LP since their 1991 debut.… Cypress Hill still name-check firearms, threaten rivals and smoke more weed than a congregation of Rastas. But the obsessions are means to an end." ''The Wire'' - "…they come out fighting. Red eyed, rabid and slobbering with skunk-fueled menace.… gangsta rap's future as a musi ...
