Tennis At The Summer Universiade
Tennis has been a part of the Summer Universiade program since the games' first edition in 1959, with the exception of the 1975 Summer Universiade and again in 1989. The first change at the program was at the 1987 edition, when FISU decided awards two bronze medals for the losers of the semifinals, extinguishing the fourth place. The second change was in 2009, when the team competitions were included. Currently, seven events are played at Universiade. Individual, double and team contests for men and women, as well as mixed doubles. Summer Universiade
The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade will be officially branded as the FISU World University Games. The most recent games were held in 2019: the Winter Universiade was held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia while the Summer Universiade was held in Naples, Italy. Sabrina Goleš
Sabrina Goleš (born 3 June 1965) is a former Croatian tennis player who competed for SFR Yugoslavia. Biography Sabrina Goleš was ranked no. 3 among juniors in the world in 1983 (in the juniors, she won the Italian Open and Rolex Port Washington, reached the semifinals at Roland Garros and the Orange Bowl, and the quarterfinals at the US Open). Goleš competed for SFR Yugoslavia at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where she made it to the finals, losing 6–1, 3–6, 4–6 to Steffi Graf. The same year, Goleš was part of the Yugoslav team that reached the Federation Cup semifinals. In 1987, Goleš won the WTA tournament in Paris and four titles in doubles. Allen Fox
Allen E. Fox (born June 25, 1939) is an American former tennis player in the 1960s and 1970s who went on to be a college coach and author. He was ranked as high as U.S. No. 4 in 1962, and was in the top ten in the U.S. five times between 1961 and 1968. In 1960, he won the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) doubles title with Larry Nagler for the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1961, Fox won the NCAA singles title. In 1962 he won the US National Hard Court title. He won a gold medal in singles at the 1965 Maccabiah Games in Israel. At the 1969 Maccabiah Games he won gold medals in singles and doubles. Toomas Leius
Toomas Leius (born 28 August 1941) is a former tennis player from Estonia who competed for the Soviet Union. Career Leius was the boys' singles champion at the 1959 Wimbledon Championships. He won the Soviet Championships in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1968. Other good performances during his career include reaching the final of the 1964 Queen's Club Championships, which he lost to Roy Emerson, and taking Rod Laver to five sets at the 1969 Heineken Open. He was a gold medalist in the mixed doubles at the 1970 Summer Universiade in Turin, with Tiiu Parmas. His best performance in the singles draw of a Grand Slam tournament came at the 1965 French Championships, where he made the quarter-finals. Mitsuru Motoi
Mitsuru Motoi (born 29 August 1941) is a Japanese former professional tennis player. Born in Yao City, Motoi is a graduate of Kwansei Gakuin University and won a singles bronze medal for Japan at the 1963 Summer Universiade. He was beaten in five sets by Koji Watanabe in the singles final of the 1964 All-Japan championships. In 1965 he played in a Davis Cup tie for the only time, against South Korea in Seoul, winning both his singles and doubles rubber. In 1973 he won the All-Japan championships in mixed doubles. Bodo Nitsche (24 August 1938 – 18 February 2017) was a German tennis player. Raised in Stuttgart, Nitsche played Bundesliga tennis for TEC Waldau. Li Ting (; born 5 January 1980) is a Chinese former professional tennis player. She won the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in women's doubles alongside Sun Tiantian. Education She graduated from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2002. Career As a doubles player, Li has enjoyed great success, winning 26 ITF titles and a further seven WTA titles by March 2006.
