Tennis was contested at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand from December 10 to December 19, 1978. Tennis had doubles and singles events for men and women, as well as a mixed doubles competition. Indonesia dominated the competition, finishing first in medal table with 3 gold medals. Kimiyo Hatanaka
Kimiyo Hatanaka (born 16 April 1944), previously Kimiyo Yagahara, is a Japanese former professional tennis player. A native of Tokyo, Hatanaka was the singles winner at the 1971 All Japan Tennis Championships and won a further six national titles during her career in women's doubles. Hatanaka was a member of the Japan Federation Cup team during the 1970s, amassing wins in 11 singles and 12 doubles rubbers. Yang Jeong-soon (born 26 February 1947) is a Korean former professional tennis player. Yang featured in 16 Federation Cup rubbers for South Korea during the 1970s, which included an upset win over America's Patti Hogan in 1973. Sonoe Yonezawa (born 29 August 1949) is a Japanese former professional tennis player. Born in Hiroshima, Yonezawa was active on tour during the 1970s and 1980s. Kiyoko Nomura (17 November 1954 – 17 February 2016) was a Japanese former professional tennis player. Nomura, a multiple medalist at the 1978 Asian Games, represented the Japan Federation Cup team from 1978 to 1981. She was the singles winner at the All Japan Championships in 1979 and 1981, as well as a five-time national champion in doubles. Lee Duk-hee (born 13 July 1953) is a former professional tennis player from South Korea. Biography Lee started in 1973 when she made the second round of the Australian Open, then featured as a doubles player at both the 1973 French Open and Wimbledon Championships. For the rest of the 1970s, she played only representative tennis for South Korea. She was a foundation player in South Korea's Fed Cup team, first featuring in its tournament debut in 1973, with regular appearances from 1976. At the 1974 Asian Games, she partnered with Lee Soon-oh to win a silver medal in the women's doubles. She won two gold medals at the 1978 Asian Games in both the women's singles and doubles.
