Tennis At The 1904 Summer Olympics – Men's Doubles
The men's doubles was a tennis event held as part of the Tennis at the 1904 Summer Olympics programme. It was the third time the event was held at the Olympics. There were 30 players from 2 nations, comprising 15 pairs including one mixed team. Only one player was from outside the United States; all medals were won by Americans. The event was won by Edgar Leonard and Beals Wright, defeating Alphonzo Bell and Robert LeRoy in the final. The two bronze medal pairs were Clarence Gamble (tennis)/Arthur Wear and Joseph Wear/ Allen West. The medals were the first credited to the United States in the men's doubles, though an American had been part of a silver medal mixed team in 1900. Francis Field (Missouri)
Francis Olympic Field is a stadium at Washington University in St. Louis that was used as the main venue for the 1904 Summer Olympics. It is currently used by the university's track and field, cross country, football, and soccer teams. It is located in St. Louis County, Missouri on the far western edge of the university's Danforth Campus. Built in time for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904 St. Louis World's Fair), the stadium once had a 19,000-person seating capacity, but stadium renovations in 1984 reduced the capacity to 3,300 people. Ralph McKittrick
Ralph McKittrick (August 17, 1877 – May 4, 1923) was an American golfer and tennis player who competed in the 1904 Summer Olympics. In 1904 McKittrick was part of the American team which won the silver medal in the team golf event. He finished eleventh in this competition. In the individual competition he finished first in the qualification but was eliminated in the second round of the match play. Joseph Charles, Jr. (born January 6, 1944) is an American Democratic Party politician. Early life and education Charles graduated with a B.A. from Rutgers University in Chemistry, and was awarded a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Newark. Career Charles served in the New Jersey Senate from 2002 to 2003, where he represented the 31st Legislative District. He had also served in the lower house of the New Jersey Legislature, the General Assembly, from 1982 to 2002.
