Ten Years Of Harmony
''Ten Years of Harmony'' is an official double album compilation album released by the Beach Boys in 1981, and spanning their entire Brother Records-era up to that point (1970–80), including some unreleased or rare material. Although the song "Darlin' (The Beach Boys song), Darlin'" had originally been recorded in 1967 while the group was signed to Capitol Records, the version on ''Ten Years of Harmony'' was recorded live in 1973 for the album ''The Beach Boys in Concert''. The Beach Boys had more or less splintered in 1981. Far from lucid, Brian Wilson would occasionally appear on stage, primarily as a replacement for brother Carl Wilson, Carl, who was embarking on a solo career. Dennis Wilson would show up to occasional concerts, but would usually be argumentative and disruptive. Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston were the only stable members of a band who now had a whole cast of supporting musicians when they performed live. However, the release of ''Ten Years of Harmo ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

They drew on the music of traditional pop, older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound. Under Brian's direction, they often incorporated classical music, classical or jazz elements and Recording studio as an instrument, unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways. Disney Girls (1957)
"Disney Girls (1957)" is a song by American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1971 album '' Surf's Up''. It was written and sung by Bruce Johnston, who also plays upright piano, Moog synthesizer, and mandolin. Johnston later rerecorded the song for his 1977 solo album, '' Going Public''. Background and lyrics "Disney Girls (1957)" is a nostalgic reflection sung from the viewpoint of a man who rejects reality in favor of the nostalgia he felt towards the fantasy world of the girls in Walt Disney movies and television shows, songs by Patti Page and the days he made wine in his garage, enjoying lemonade in the country shade. Johnston said that he wrote the song "because I saw so many kids in our audiences being wiped out on drugs" and he had wanted to capture the feeling of an era in which people were "a little naive but a little healthier." Recognition and legacy "Disney Girls (1957)" has proven to be one of Bruce Johnston's most enduring songs, still occasionally performed by ... The Beach Boys Love You
''The Beach Boys Love You'' is the 21st studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released April 11, 1977 on Brother/Reprise. Sometimes referred to as the band's "punk" or "synth pop" album, ''Love You'' is distinguished for its pioneering use of synthesizers and its juxtaposition of adolescent-oriented lyrics with the adult band members' rough vocals. The album was largely recorded in late 1976 at the band's Brother Studios. Originally planned as ''Brian Loves You'', it is essentially a solo project by Brian Wilson, who wrote almost all of the material and played nearly every instrument on the record, including keyboards, synthesizers, and drums. ''Love You'' marked the first time he was given full control of a Beach Boys album since the ''Smile'' sessions in 1967, albeit with strong assistance from his brothers Carl and Dennis. Engineer Earle Mankey described the work as "serious", "autobiographical", and "frighteningly accurate" to Brian's personality. The subject mat ... Sunflower (Beach Boys Album)
''Sunflower'' is the sixteenth studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys, released on August 31, 1970, and their first on Reprise Records. It received favorable reviews, but sold poorly, reaching number 151 on the US record charts during a four-week stay and becoming the lowest-charting Beach Boys album to that point. " Add Some Music to Your Day" was the only single that charted in the US, peaking at number 64. In the UK, the album peaked at number 29. Working titles for the album included ''Reverberation'', ''Add Some Music'', and ''The Fading Rock Group Revival''. The recording sessions began in January 1969, and, after a year-long search for a new record contract, completed in July 1970. In contrast to ''20/20'', the record featured a strong group presence with significant writing contributions from all band members. About four dozen songs were written for the album, and the label rejected numerous revisions of its track listing before the band presented enough form ... Add Some Music To Your Day
"Add Some Music to Your Day" is a song by American rock band the Beach Boys that was released in the US on February 23, 1970 as the lead single from their album ''Sunflower (The Beach Boys album), Sunflower''. It was written by Brian Wilson, Joe Knott and Mike Love. Wilson later said that Knott "was a friend of mine who wasn't a songwriter but he contributed a couple of lines. But I can't remember which ones!" The song features lyrics that are a celebration of music and its ubiquitous presence in daily life. In April, the single peaked at number 64 in the US during a five-week stay. Disc jockeys generally refused to play the song on the radio, with one DJ reportedly stating that the Beach Boys "aren't hip anymore". According to band promoter Fred Vail, WFIL program director Jay Cook refused to play the song even after "telling me how great the Beach Boys are and how great Brian is." ''Cash Box'' said "the Beach Boys strike up a whole new brand of teen excitement tinged with a trace ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

River Song (Dennis Wilson Song)
"River Song" is a song written by Dennis Wilson and his younger brother Carl Wilson. It served as the opening track for Dennis Wilson's 1977 debut solo album ''Pacific Ocean Blue''. The song was released as a single in Europe with the B-side being " Farewell My Friend". The single however, failed to chart. The track, as with the rest of the album, was credited as being produced by Dennis and his close friend Gregg Jakobson. Dennis Wilson sings the lead vocals on this and every other track on the album. Recording All the keyboards featured in the song were provided by Dennis Wilson. The opening piano part of the song had origins seven years earlier during recording sessions held in 1970. The piano riff represents the flowing of a river. In an interview, Dennis explained that he was "in the High Sierras walking by this river that was very small and it kept getting bigger and bigger", and he explains that this is the purpose — to represent the river — of "the guitar sound on the ... Pacific Ocean Blue
''Pacific Ocean Blue'' is the only studio album by American musician Dennis Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys. When released in August 1977, it was warmly received critically, and noted for outselling the Beach Boys' contemporary efforts. Two singles were issued from the album, " River Song" and " You and I", which did not chart. The album remains a focal point of Wilson's legacy, being referred to as a "classic". It was voted number 838 in Colin Larkin's ''All Time Top 1000 Albums''. Wilson intended to record a follow-up, entitled '' Bambu'', but the album was left unfinished at the time of his death in December 1983. Background and recording After several attempts, starting in 1970, to realize his own project, some of which made it to the finished album, Wilson recorded the bulk of ''Pacific Ocean Blue'' in the months spanning the fall of 1976 to the following spring, at the Beach Boys' own Brother Studios. At the time of recording, Dennis' hard living had begun affecting h ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

15 Big Ones
''15 Big Ones'' is the 20th studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys, released July 5, 1976 on Brother/Reprise. It includes a mix of original songs and renditions of rock 'n' roll and R&B standards. The LP was the band's first album with production credited solely to Brian Wilson since ''Pet Sounds'' (1966). As such, its release was accompanied by a controversial media campaign that declared his comeback as an active member of the Beach Boys' recording and touring group. Following their previous album, ''Holland'' (1973), the band had focused on touring and attracting bigger concert audiences, especially after the unexpected success of their greatest hits compilation '' Endless Summer'' (1974). They attempted to record a new album at Caribou Ranch studio in late 1974, but it was soon abandoned, partly due to Wilson being unable or unwilling to participate. At the end of 1975, his bandmates and manager Stephen Love prevailed upon him to produce the group's next relea ...
