Teleorman County
Teleorman County () is a county ( județ) of Romania on the border with Bulgaria, in the historical region Muntenia, with its capital city at Alexandria. The name ''Teleorman'' is of Cumanic ( Turkic) origin. It literally means ''crazy forest'' (Deli orman) and, by extension, "thick and shadowy forest" in the Cuman language. It can be encountered in other toponyms, such as the Turkish name of the Ludogorie Plateau in northeastern Bulgaria. Sinking Of The Teleorman
On October 31, 1912, the longboat ''Teleorman'', a Romanian Navy vessel, was traveling on the Danube from Călărași to Ostrov. On board were 44 border guards stationed at Predeal, on the frontier with Austria-Hungary. In addition, a civilian mechanic, a stoker, a corporal and two sergeants were on the boat. The Teleorman sank upon reaching a bend in the Borcea, the Danube channel at Călărași. This occurred because the boat was too full and listed to one side at the turn. The troops were thrown to that side, causing the boat to overturn and sink. Diocese Of Alexandria And Teleorman
The Diocese of Alexandria and Teleorman ( ro, Episcopia Alexandriei și Teleormanului) is a diocese of the Romanian Orthodox Church. Its see is Saint Alexander Cathedral in Alexandria and its ecclesiastical territory covers Teleorman County. Divided into four archpriests' districts, it has around 250 priests and churches, of which 35 are historic monuments. The diocese forms part of the Metropolis of Muntenia and Dobrudja.
