Ted Van Lieshout
Ted van Lieshout (born 21 December 1955) is a Dutch poet and writer of children's literature. He has won numerous awards for his work. Early life Van Lieshout was born in 1955 in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Van Lieshout studied ''Beeldende Kunsten en Vormgeving'' between 1975 and 1980 at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Until 1990 he was part-time teacher at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. After graduating van Lieshout made drawings for the newspaper ''NRC Handelsblad'' as well as magazines such as ''Avenue'' and ''Blauw Geruite Kiel'', the youth magazine of ''Vrij Nederland''. He also contributed to the television shows ''Het Klokhuis'' and ''Sesamstraat''. He became a full-time writer in 1990. Career In 1995, he won the Gouden Griffel award for his book ''Begin een torentje van niks''. This was the first time this award was given for a work of poetry. Gouden Griffel
The Gouden Griffel (Golden Stylus) is an award given to authors of children's or teenagers' literature in the Netherlands. History Since 1971, it is awarded each year during the Dutch Children's Books Week, by the Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (Dutch Book Promotion Society) for the best children's books written in the past year. Between 1954 and 1970, one book per year was declared the "children's book of the year". Since then, ''griffels'' are awarded in several categories. Only novels written in Dutch are eligible for the ''gouden griffel''. However, the runner-up awards (Silver ''griffels'') can also be given to translated works. Aside from these, the ''Gouden Penseel'' (golden paintbrush) is awarded to the best illustrated children's books (with silver ''penseel'' as a runner-up), and since 1997 the Gouden Zoen (golden kiss, with silver as a runner-up) is awarded to the best books for teenagers. Sylvia Weve
Sylvia Weve (born 28 May 1954) is a Dutch illustrator. Weve has illustrated over 150 books and she has received numerous awards for her work, including the Gouden Penseel award, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs and the Max Velthuijs-prijs. Career In 1983, Weve made her debut as children's book illustrator by illustrating the book ''Een noom op school'' written by Corrie Hafkamp. Early in her career, Weve illustrated many books by Rindert Kromhout. Weve went on to illustrate many books by numerous authors including Karel Eykman, Veronica Hazelhoff, Ted van Lieshout, Bies van Ede and Edward van de Vendel. In 2006, she published ''Kip en ei'', a book which she both wrote and illustrated herself. Later in her career she started collaborating with Bette Westera and they both won various awards for their work, including the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs in 2015. The Nederlands Letterenfonds ("Dutch Foundation for Literature") is a Dutch organization that promotes Dutch literature at home and abroad. The Letterenfonds represents Dutch authors at such events as the Frankfurt Book Fair, and awards a number of prizes for writers and translators. Its current president is Tiziano Perez.
