Ted Smith (American Football)
Ted Smith is a former American football guard who played for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, and was recognized as a consensus All-American in 1975. Early life Smith graduated from Gibsonburg High School in Gibsonburg, Ohio. At Gibsonburg, he earned nine letters in various sports and was team captain of both the basketball and football team. In football, he played both ways as a running back and linebacker. In his senior year he earned several honors including being named All-Ohio and High School All-American. College career Smith played for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team under coach Woody Hayes during the 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975 seasons, lettering in the last three years. He played linebacker at first but switched to guard at the beginning of his junior year. Ted Smith (conservationist)
Arthur Edward Smith CBE was a British conservation pioneer and English teacher from Lincolnshire. He was primarily known for his work in founding the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, and in extending the Wildlife Trust movement across Britain to form what is now the Wildlife Trusts. Early life Ted Smith came from a relatively poor background; his father Arthur was a plumber, and his parents ran a bakery and grocery shop. He attended Leeds University, and studied English, where he was taught by Bruce Dickins. He spent much of his adult life working firstly as a teacher in Leeds and then Norfolk, and then as an adult education tutor in Lincolnshire. Ted Smith (born July 15, 1945) is the founder and former executive director of the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition, co-founder of the International Campaign for Responsible Technology, and chair of the Electronics TakeBack Coalition steering committee. Smith is a former AmeriCorps VISTA, VISTA Volunteer, a 1967 graduate of Wesleyan University, and a 1972 graduate of Stanford Law School. John Edward Smith (1914 – 1989), was an English footballer who played as full back, and a coach. Smith represented Millwall F.C. in the late 1930s, he then coached Benfica from 1948 to 1952 guiding them to their first international trophy. Career Born 3 September 1914 in Grays, in the Essex county, Smith football career started at Millwall F.C. in 1935, as the ''Lions'' were on Third Division. He was part of the squad that eliminated (2–0) Manchester City on the quarter-finals of the 1936–37 FA Cup, on 6 March 1937, which would be known as one of the historic ''giant-killings'' in the FA Cup. In the next season, Smith helped the club get promoted to the second tier, playing just one season before the War interruption. He competed a further three years, retiring in 1948, age 33, after amassing over 140 league caps. He immediately started a managerial career, arriving at Benfica in 1948. Edwin Smith (also known as Ted; 17 September 1922 – 15 January 1997) was a New Zealand rower from Auckland. Early life Smith was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on 17 September 1922. He went to Rose Road Primary School in Grey Lynn and later Richmond Road School. He entered into a four and a half year Contract of Apprenticeship on 20 April 1938 as an Apprentice Fitter and Turner with Hubert Samual Tanner, New North Road, Auckland, Trailer Manufacture. In his youth he sailed ''Huia'' a mullet boat with the Thomson brothers as far north as the Bay of Islands, prior to and after the war he sailed with Ken Brown on Ghost a Bermudian sloop-rigged 28 foot yacht designed and built by Woollacott. The Piper Aerostar (formerly Ted Smith Aerostar) is an American twin-engined propeller-driven executive or light transport aircraft, designed by Ted R. Smith. It was originally built by Ted Smith Aircraft Company, which after 1978 became part of the Piper Aircraft Corporation. Design and development Ted Smith flew the first Aerostar 600 in October 1967. It was a mid-wing cantilever monoplane powered by two wing-mounted Avco Lycoming piston engines, with a tricycle landing gear. It was fitted with luxury accommodation for six. Also produced, and the base of most of the subsequent models, was a version with turbocharged engines, the Aerostar 601. During the time of production, the Aerostar held the speed record for fastest twin piston general aviation aircraft, capable of cruise speeds from 220 kn (408 km/h) for the earliest 600 models to 261 kn (483 km/h) for the later 700 models.
