Ted Hill (mathematician)
Theodore Preston Hill (born December 28, 1943) is an American mathematician specializing in probability theory. He is a professor emeritus at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a researcher at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Contributions Hill is known for his research on mathematical probability theory, in particular for his work on Benford's law, and for his work in the theories of optimal stopping ( secretary problems) and fair division, in particular the Hill-Beck land division problem. Hill has attracted attention for a paper on the theory that men exhibit greater variability than women in genetically controlled traits that he wrote with Sergei Tabachnikov. It was accepted but not published by ''The Mathematical Intelligencer''; a later version authored by Hill alone was peer reviewed and accepted by '' The New York Journal of Mathematics'' (''NYJM'') and retracted after publication. Edward James Hill, Baron Hill of Wivenhoe (20 August 1899 – 14 December 1969), known as Ted Hill, was a British trade unionist. Known as a shrewd negotiator, Hill frequently succeeded in "wresting many concessions from unwilling employers." Born in West Ham, London, Hill was one of 12 children in a family with strong socialist traditions. Edward Hill (born 26 March 1999) is an English professional rugby union player who plays as a Flanker for Bath. Rugby career Club Hill started playing rugby as a child at Malvern RFC prior to joining the Worcester Warriors academy. In November 2017 he made his club debut against Sale Sharks in the Anglo-Welsh Cup. He made his league debut at the start of the 2018–19 Premiership season coming off the bench to score two tries including the winner against Leicester Tigers at Welford Road. On 3 November 2018, an article on BBC Sport's website, illustrated the meteoric rise of Hill, mentioning "(Hill's) four tries in his last five appearances for Worcester". Teddy Hill
Teddy Hill (December 7, 1909 in Birmingham, Alabama – May 19, 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio) was an American big band leader and the manager of Minton's Playhouse, a seminal jazz club in Harlem. He played a variety of instruments, including drums, clarinet, soprano and tenor saxophone. Life and career After moving to New York City, Hill had early gigs with the Whitman Sisters, George Howe and Luis Russell's orchestra in the 1920s, later forming his own band in 1934, which found steady work over the NBC radio network.
