Ted Griffin (orca Capturer)
Edward Irving "Ted" Griffin (born November 22, 1935) is an American former aquarium owner and entrepreneur who was the first man to ever swim with a killer whale in a public exhibition, with the whale named Namu. He is best known for capturing, performing with, and selling a number of orcas during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was curious when the rival Vancouver Aquarium succeeded in capturing and keeping a killer whale alive in captivity for the first time. SeaWorld is an American theme park chain with headquarters in Orlando, Florida. Lolita (orca)
Lolita (born ), formerly known as ''Tokitae'', is a female orca from the L pod of Southern resident orcas. She has been in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium in Florida since September 24, 1970. As of 2022, Lolita is the second oldest orca in captivity behind Corky at SeaWorld San Diego. McKenna, Cara 2020 Life Lolita is a member of the L Pod of southern resident orcas. She was captured from the wild on August 8, 1970 in Penn Cove, Puget Sound, Washington as part of the Penn Cove capture when she was approximately four years old. Shamu
Shamu (unknown – August 16, 1971) was a captive orca that appeared in shows at SeaWorld San Diego in the mid/late 1960s. She was the fourth orca ever captured, and the second female. She was caught in October 1965 and died in August 1971, after about six years of captivity. After her death, the name Shamu continued to be used in SeaWorld "Shamu" shows for different orcas in different SeaWorld parks. Early life Shamu was the first known intentional live capture of a healthy orca as the three previous captures (Wanda, Moby Doll and Namu) had been more opportunistic.
