Ted Davis (American Football)
Richard Kenneth Davis (July 27, 1942 – November 7, 2019) was a former American football linebacker in the National Football League. He was drafted by both the San Diego Chargers of the AFL and the Baltimore Colts of the NFL in 1964 but chose to play for the Colts. Ted was then drafted by the Saints in the 1967 NFL Expansion Draft and was one of the original New Orleans Saints players. He played for the New Orleans Saints from 1967 to 1969 and he finished his career with the Miami Dolphins in 1970. He was also a football actor in the 1969 Charlton Heston movie Number One featuring the New Orleans Saints. Ted played collegiately at the wide receiver/end position from 1961 to 1963 for Georgia Tech and was inducted into the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame in 1980. He recorded 19 receptions for 324 yards while in college. Edwin "Ted" Davis (born 1892 in Bedminster, Bristol) was a professional footballer, who played for Clapton Orient, Huddersfield Town & Blackburn Rovers, he is most notably Bath City's longest serving manager of all time. Management career Bath City Davis was appointed at Bath City in 1927. In 1929, he won the club their first competitive trophy, The Somerset Cup. The following season, the team finished first in the Southern League Western Section, though Bath lost 3–2 in the play offs to Eastern Section Champions Aldershot Town, hence, they were less applicable for election to the Third Division. The season was labelled "the best in the club's history by the Bath Chronicle." In 1933, the club won the Southern League Western Section for a second time, but lost in the final to play–off Eastern Section Champions Norwich City 2–1. Ted Davis is the former radio play-by-play voice of the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA. He was formerly the play-by-play voice of the Dallas Mavericks. Broadcasting career Davis began his broadcasting career in Denton, Texas when he was hired by KDNT at the age of 17. After working at KDNT, he resided on the KVIL sports staff for 10 years (1978–88), where he also called Texas Christian University and Texas A&M games from 1982-86 as part of the Southwest Conference radio network. CBS Radio also employed him to cover games for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament from 1986–88, and also the NCAA Women's Final Four in 1986 and 1987. Teddy "Redtop" Davis, alias Murray (Sugar) Cain (June 23, 1923 – June 4, 1966), was a featherweight professional boxer from South Carolina. Personal life "Redtop" Davis was born in Laurens, South Carolina but at his death was a resident of Brooklyn, New York. He served in the US military, where he made a name for himself fighting under the name "Murray (Sugar) Cain." Professional career Redtop's career as a professional boxer might not be believable, were it not so well-documented. He made his professional debut in February 1946 and initially fought at least once a month, sometimes twice. By the end of 1946 he had already amassed a dismal record of 1 win and 6 losses with 2 draws. Nevertheless, he kept plugging away, winning a few fights here and there so that by March 1947 he had been selected as an opponent for Sammy Angott, whose record was 82-23-7.
