Tchaikovsky House In Taganrog
The Tchaikovsky House in Taganrog is a historical mansion in the historical downtown Taganrog on Ulitsa Grecheskaya, 56. The mansion was built in early 1870s by the project of the architect Petrov. It was owned by the merchant Sarandino until mid-1890s. From 1883 until 1894, the building was rented by the captain of the first rank Ippolit Tchaikovsky who served in Taganrog representing the Russian Society of navigation and trade. Pyotr Tchaikovsky came to Taganrog and stayed at this house three times: in 1886, 1888 and in 1890. The building was mentioned in one of Anton Chekhov's letters to his cousin Georgy Chekhov in 1895: If I were rich, I would certainly buy the house where Ippolit Tchaikovsky used to live. Taganrog ( rus, Таганрог, p=təɡɐnˈrok) is a port city in Rostov Oblast, Russia, on the north shore of the Taganrog Bay in the Sea of Azov, several kilometers west of the mouth of the Don River. Chekhov Library in Taganrog (full name ''The Central Municipal Public Library named after Anton Chekhov'', russian: Центральная городская публичная библиотека имени А.П.Чехова) is the oldest library in the South of Russia. Foundation history The public library along with a small bookstore were officially inaugurated on 23 May 1876 by the Governor of Taganrog Admiral Johan Hampus Furuhjelm. 1927 Crimean Earthquakes
The 1927 Crimean earthquakes occurred in the month of June and again in September in the waters of the Black Sea near the Crimean Peninsula. Each of the submarine earthquakes in the sequence triggered tsunami. The June event was moderate relative to the large September 11 event, which had at least one aftershock that also generated a tsunami.
