Tattenhall Road Railway Station
Tattenhall Road railway station was a railway station situated a mile to the north of the village of Tattenhall, Cheshire on the Chester and Crewe Railway that was built in 1840 linking Chester to the north-west with Crewe to the south-east. The track now forms part of the North Wales Coast Line. The station was named Tattenhall Road in 1872 to distinguish it from another Tattenhall railway station, a little to the west of the village, on the Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway The Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway was a line in Cheshire built by the London and North Western Railway in the 19th century. The branch, which was long, connected the North Wales Coast Line from with the Welsh Marches line and Oswestry ... branch line to Whitchurch. Tattenhall is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Tattenhall and District, south-east of Chester, in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. In the 2001 census, the population was recorded as 1,986, increasing to 2,079 by the 2011 census. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 to form Tattenhall and District. History The settlement of ''Tatenale'' was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name is believed to be derived from the Old English personal name ''Tata'' and ''halh'', meaning "a meadow" or "nook of land". Black Dog railway station was the first station that served the village of Waverton in Cheshire West and Chester, England. The stop, which was open from 1840 to 1898, was as "Black Dog" after a nearby public house, but it was sometimes referred to as "Waverton". The station was closed in 1898 after it was replaced with the second station at Waverton, which was about west of Black Dog; it closed to passengers in 1959.
