Guillaume Thomas Taraval (21 December 1701 – April 1750) was a French born, Swedish painter. Biography Guillaume Thomas Raphaël Taraval was born in France, the son of François Taraval and Chatherine Masson. He became orphaned early in life and was raised by his foster-father Henry Guillemard (1665-1728) who also gave him the first lessons in painting and drawing. He continued his education with the artist Claude Audran (1658–1734). Together with other French artists, Taraval arrived in Stockholm in 1732. Taraval was mainly active in the Stockholm Palace. He produced a series of elegant ceiling paintings and introduced the Rococo decorative style to Sweden. He also painted portraits, altarpieces and still lives, and prepared sketches for a chandelier in the chapel, which was then completed by his disciple Johan Pasch. Jean-Hugues Taraval (27 February 1729 – 19 October 1785) was a French painter.Lee 1996.According to the Getty Research Institute's Union List of Artist Names OnlineID: 500013688, his name is sometimes given as Hughes Taraval. Taraval was born in Paris, the son of the French painter Guillaume Taraval, who moved his family to Stockholm in 1732 to work on the decoration of the new Royal Palace. Initially a pupil of his father, Hugues returned to Paris after his father's death in 1750. There he studied with Jean-Baptiste Marie Pierre and Charles-André van Loo. In 1756, he won the Prix de Rome with ''Job Mocked by his Wife'', now in the Musée des beaux-arts de Marseille. In Rome he was a pupil of Charles-Joseph Natoire at the Académie française. Admitted to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture (Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture) in Paris in 1765, he was received there in 1769. Sigismundo Taraval
Sigismundo Taraval, SJ (1700–1763) was a pioneering Italian Jesuit missionary in Baja California who wrote important historical accounts of the peninsula. Born in Lodi, Lombardy, he served initially as missionary at La Purísima (1730–1732) and San Ignacio (1732-1733), among the Cochimí. A notable episode while he was at San Ignacio was the bringing of the inhabitants of Cedros Island to the mission. In a relatively detailed account of the islanders' aboriginal lifeways, Taraval presented what were perhaps the earliest speculations concerning the region's prehistoric past. In 1733 he was sent south to found the Misión Santa Rosa de las Palmas at the modern site of Todos Santos. The following year, the local Pericú and Guaycura Indians staged a serious revolt against Jesuit rule, and Taraval was forced to flee, first to La Paz and then to Isla Espíritu Santo.
