Tapir
Tapirs ( ) are large, herbivorous mammals belonging to the family Tapiridae. They are similar in shape to a pig, with a short, prehensile nose trunk. Tapirs inhabit jungle and forest regions of South and Central America, with one species inhabiting Southeast Asia. They are one of three extant branches of Perissodactyla (odd-toed ungulates), alongside equines and rhinoceros. Only a single genus, ''Tapirus'' is currently extant. Tapirs migrated into South America during the Pleistocene epoch from North America after the formation of the Isthmus of Panama as part of the Great American Interchange. Tapirs were once widespread in North America until the arrival of humans at the end of the Late Pleistocene, around 12,000 years ago. Tapir! is a six-piece indie folk band from London. Known for their blend of genres such as post-punk and art pop, their first album, '' The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain'' was released on 26 January 2024. History Tapir! is formed of six musicians from London, many of which are a part of other projects. While the band began pre-2020, they only began releasing music in 2022. They released "My God" (their first single, written during the COVID-19 pandemic) and the EP ''Act 1 (The Pilgrim)'' in 2022. These were both later re-released, with "My God" becoming a single for their first album and ''Act 1 (The Pilgrim)'' being remastered and re-released to coincide with the signing of the band to Heavenly Recordings in May 2023. Tapir! began playing live shows in 2022, opening for Ian Sweet in May 2022 and performing at Paper Dress Vintage in August 2022. Óliver Ramos (born March 29, 1989), known by his nickname Tapir 590, is a Peruvian social media personality. He became known for his luxury lifestyle videos and his catchphrase "Claro pe', mascota" (). Career Tapir 590 started uploading videos on his social networks around January 2019. His content was varied, and included showing off his luxuries, owning expensive objects, and giving "advice", thus provoking the derision of his followers. HMS ''Tapir'' (P335) was a Second World War British T-class submarine, built by Vickers-Armstrong in Barrow-in-Furness. So far she has been the only ship of the Royal Navy to bear the name ''Tapir'', after the animal. Career As HMS ''Tapir'' The submarine was laid down on 29 March 1943, and launched on 21 August 1944. Commissioned into the Royal Navy on 30 December of that year, she led a distinguished career for such a late entry into the war, torpedoing the German submarine U-486 in the North Sea, to the north-west of Bergen, Norway at position on 12 April 1945.
