Talish (region)
Tālīsh ( fa, تالش, Tālesh, az, Talış, tly, Tolış, script=Latn) is a region that stretches north from the Sefīd-Rūd river, which cuts through the Alborz mountains in Iran's Gilan Province, to the Aras river in the south of Azerbaijan. The region is inhabited by the Talish people who speak the Talish language. The territory and the language set apart Talish from its neighbors. Etymology The name is first found in the Armenian translation of the '' Alexander Romance'' as "Tʿalis̲h̲". The Persian pronunciation of the name in plural form was "Talishan" ( fa, تالشان, Tāleshān). History In the Ilkhanate times, the Ispahbads of Gilan have had a principality on the borders of Gilan and Mughan, with a fortress and villages. Talish People
The Talysh people ( tly, Tolışon, script=Latn تالشان; az, Talışlar; fa, تالشان) are an Iranian ethnic group indigenous to a region shared between Azerbaijan and Iran which spans the South Caucasus and the southwestern shore of the Caspian Sea. They speak the Talysh language, one of the Northwestern Iranian languages. It is spoken in the northern regions of the Iranian provinces of Gilan and Ardabil and the southern parts of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The areas in the Republic of Azerbaijan where Northern Talysh is spoken was historically known as Talish-i Gushtasbi. In Iran there is a Talesh County in Gilan Province. Origins The Talyshis have traditionally inhabited the Talish district in the southwestern part of the Caspian Sea, which is usually considered to extend more than 150 km. Talish-i Gushtasbi
Talish-i Gushtasbi ( fa, تالش گشتاسبی) is the historical name of the northern Talish area, presently a part of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the Abbasid Caliphate, there was a (partially equivalent) region called Gushtasfi ( fa, links=no, گشتاسفی). People of northern Talysh are of Iranian stock and speak a northwestern Iranian language called Talysh. The chief cities of the mentioned area are Lankaran, Lerik, Masally and Astara. Talysh language speaking people lives mainly in Astara (most of population), Lerik (great part of population), Lankaran (little more than half of population), and in Masally constitutes only small part of population. Talish, Tartar
Talish ( az, Talış, ; hy, Թալիշ) is a village in the Tartar District in Azerbaijan, in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The village had an ethnic Armenian-majority population prior to the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and also had an Armenian majority in 1989. History During the Soviet period, the village was part of the Mardakert District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast. During the course of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the side controlling the village has changed on numerous occasions. During the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, the village last changed hands when the village was recaptured by Armenian forces from the Azerbaijani side on 11 April 1994. Agha Talish
Agha Ali Abbas Qizilbash (also known as Agha Talish, ur, ) (13 November 1923 – 19 February 1998) was a Pakistani actor who made his debut in 1947 and was mostly known and recognized in Pakistan for playing character actor or villain roles. Talish was honoured by a Pride of Performance award, by the Government of Pakistan in 1989. Life and career Talish was born in Ludhiana, British India in 1923. His breakthrough film in Pakistan was film producer Saifuddin Saif's ''Saat Lakh'' (1957) where his on-screen performance for this popular hit song was widely admired, ''Yaaro Mujhe Maaf Rakho Mein Nashe Mein Hoon''. Aehsun Talish ( ur, ) is a Pakistani television director, producer, and actor. He has worked in many successful television dramas. Raza Talish ( ur, ) is a Pakistani actor and director. He is the son of director Aehsun Talish and grandson of senior actor Agha Talish.
