"Take It to the Streets" was the lead single released from Rampage (rapper), Rampage's debut album, ''Scout's Honor… by Way of Blood''. The song was produced by Rashad Smith (producer), Rashad Smith and featured vocals from R&B singer Billy Lawrence. It used a sample of Unlimited Touch's 1981 single "I Hear Music in the Streets". Released in the summer of 1997, "Take It to the Streets" became both Rampage and Billy Lawrence's biggest hit, reaching number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number five on the Rap Songs, Hot Rap Singles chart. Rampage (rapper)
Roger McNair, known professionally as Rampage (formerly Rampage the Last Boy Scout), is an American rapper who is a member of the Flipmode Squad. He is a long-time collaborator with his cousin Busta Rhymes. Early life and music career Rampage was born Roger McNair in Brooklyn, New York City on August 1, 1974, to Katherine McNair and Roger Williams, who are from Jamaica. In 1992, McNair was given his first recording deal with Dallas Austin on Rowdy / Arista Records and released the single "Beware of the Rampsack". In 1993 Rampage made his first guest appearance on the song “Spontaneous (13 MC's Deep)” off Leaders Of The New School's '' T.I.M.E. (The Inner Mind's Eye)''. ''Scout's Honor... by Way of Blood'' is the debut solo studio album by American rapper Rampage. It was released on July 29, 1997, through Flipmode/ Elektra Records. Production was mainly handled by DJ Scratch and Rashad Smith. It features guest appearances from Busta Rhymes, Spliff Star and Billy Lawrence among others. Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt. Rashad Smith (producer)
Burton Rashad "Ringo" Smith (born September 28, 1972) is an American hip hop and R&B record producer. He was born in England and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, United States, in a Jamaican and Haitian family. Rashad grew up alongside notable hip hop artists such as Mos Def, Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, among others. At the age of 19, he provided beats to Main Source, Eric B and Rakim and A Tribe Called Quest. He proceeded further into the music business by working directly with Andre Harrell at the newly minted Uptown Records. While at Uptown, Rashad met session keyboardist Avon Marshell with whom he formed Tumblin Dice. The duo went on to produce for Uptown's biggest artist's, including Mary J. Blige and Jodeci's early albums. Unlimited Touch was an American, New York-based post-disco group, most active in the early 1980s. The group's most famous song in its short lifespan was "I Hear Music in the Streets", which made number 6 on US Dance chart in 1981. Overview The group consisted of Audrey Wheeler (lead singer), Philip Hamilton, Tony Cintron, Sandy Anderson, Stephanie James and Lenny Underwood. Raymond Reid and William Anderson from New York-based band Crown Heights Affair instigated Unlimited Touch in the early 1980s, but they were not part of the band. The group was signed to Prelude Records (via Epic Records in the UK) and released their self-titled debut album in 1981. Charles Richards was the executive producer of the group.
