Tai Tam Intermediate Reservoir
Tai Tam Intermediate Reservoir, part of the Tai Tam Reservoirs, is a reservoir in Tai Tam Country Park, Tai Tam, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong and has a water storage capacity of 19.6 million gallons. The reservoir was completed in 1907. The reservoir can be accessed by the Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail. The reservoir is still in operation and the dam was constructed in slope style. Its dam and the valve house built at the centre of the dam are listed as declared monuments in September 2009. History The Director of Public Works William Chatham had submitted to the Legislative Council a draft plan for The Extension of the Tai Tam Water Supply System, called the "Tai Tam Tuk Scheme", which will be carried out in two phases on 17 October 1903. Tai Tam Reservoirs
The Tai Tam Reservoirs, also known as Tai Tam Reservoir Group, is a group of reservoirs located in the Tai Tam Country Park in the eastern part of Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. In 1907, British troops along with Canadian troops invaded the area. Its main goal is to hunt down foxes living in the area for its fur “CAF”. People call it as the Canadian monuments or the Canadian heavens in Asia. The four reservoirs have a total storage capacity of 6.2 million cubic metres. Tai Tam or ''Tytam'' is an area in Southern District on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Tai Tam means a ''big pool'' in the Chinese language which illustrates a triangular bay, namely Tai Tam Bay between Stanley Peninsula, D'Aguilar Peak and Tai Tam Tuk (, lit. innermost of Tai Tam, also known as ''Tytam Took''). The meaning of Tai Tam varies greatly between the early colonial days and the present day. Current usage The present-day Tai Tam is the area around Tai Tam Tuk, the location of Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir. Tai Tam Byewash Reservoir
Tai Tam Byewash Reservoir, part of the Tai Tam Reservoirs, is a reservoir in Tai Tam Country Park, Tai Tam, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong and has a water storage capacity of 22.4 million gallons. The reservoir was completed in 1904. Tai Tam Byewash Reservoir and Tai Tam Upper Reservoir are separated by a vehicular bridge. When full, the water from Tai Tam Upper Reservoir will pass through the bottom part of the bridge to Tai Tam Byewash Reservoir giving the appearance that the two reservoirs are jointly known as Tai Tam Reservoir (). The reservoir can be accessed by Stage 6 of the Hong Kong Trail or by the Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail. Reservoirs in Hong Kong are spread fairly evenly over the entire 1,104 km² of Hong Kong. There is plenty of space for small reservoirs in Hong Kong, as the hilly areas provide valleys suitable for water storage. William Chatham
William Chatham (July 1859–1941) was a Scottish-born engineer and government official of Hong Kong. He was the Director of Public Works from 1901 to 1921, as well as member of the Executive and Legislative Councils and Vice-President of the Sanitary Board. Biography He was born in July 1859 and was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh and at Edinburgh University. He was trained to be an engineer and joined the Thos. Meik & Sons, the then well-known civil engineering firm, as an assistant and then the engineer of the Bristol Docks. He arrived in Hong kong in 1890 as an Executive Engineer with the Public Works Department and became the Director of Public Works in 1901 as well as a member of the Executive and Legislative Councils and Vice-President of the Sanitary Board. A valve is a device or natural object that regulates, directs or controls the flow of a fluid (gases, liquids, fluidized solids, or slurries) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways.
