Taekwondo At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's 68 Kg
The men's 58 kg competition in taekwondo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney took place on September 28 at the State Sports Centre. U.S. taekwondo jin Steven López came from behind in the final round to dodge a 1–1 draw and risk penalties for aggression over South Korea's Sin Joon-sik for the gold medal in the men's featherweight class. Meanwhile, Iranian fighter Hadi Saei edged his Turkish-born Austrian opponent Tuncay Çalışkan 4–2 to earn a bronze. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. The taekwondo fighters eliminated in earlier rounds by the two finalists of the main bracket advanced directly to the repechage tournament. The State Sports Centre (known commercially as the Quaycentre) is a multi-use indoor arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and was opened in November 1984. With a total of 3,854 fixed and retractable seats the main arena is a focal point of the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre. Carlo Massimino
Carlo Massimino (born 14 May 1976 in Brisbane) is an Australian taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the men's featherweight category. He captured a bronze medal in the 67-kg division at the 2002 Asian Taekwondo Championships in Amman, Jordan, and represented his nation Australia in two editions of the Olympic Games (2000 and 2004). Before his sporting career ended in late 2004, Massimino trained full-time for Hall's Taekwondo Academy in Brisbane, under head coach and master Martin Hall.
