The men's 80 kg competition in Taekwondo at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 26 July 2021, at the Makuhari Messe Hall A. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. The top eight athletes in each event were seeded so as not to face each other in the preliminary round. The remainder of the qualified athletes were drawn randomly. Two bronze medals were awarded at the Taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition. Makuhari Messe
is a Japanese convention center outside Tokyo, located in the Mihama-ku ward of Chiba City, in the northwest corner of Chiba Prefecture. Designed by Fumihiko Maki, it is accessible by Tokyo's commuter rail system. ''Makuhari'' is the name of the area, and Messe is a German language word meaning "trade fair". Maksim Sergeyevich Khramtsov ( rus, Максим Сергеевич Храмцов, , mɐˈksʲim xrɐmˈtsof; born 12 January 1998), sometimes spelled as ''Khramtcov'', is a male Russian Taekwondo practitioner who won gold medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships. Taekwondo at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo featured 128 taekwondo fighters competing in eight weight categories; four for men, and four for women. Qualification Taekwondo competition at these Games featured a total of 128 athletes, 64 males and 64 females, and 16 in each of the eight weight categories. Achraf Mahboubi ( ar, أشرف محبوبي, born 8 August 2000) is a Moroccan taekwondo practitioner. In 2021, he represented Morocco at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.
