Tadhg McCarthaigh's GAA
Tadhg MacCarthaigh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Caheragh in Cork, Ireland. This is a Gaelic football only club, with no hurling played. The club in 2008 decided to start an under-12 hurling team, so the club may become a dual club in the future. The club is a member of the Carbery division of Cork GAA. History The Tadgh MacCarthaigh GAA Club was founded in 1954. The first playing fields were in Sonny O’Driscoll’s and Dick Kingston’s of Corliss. The club won its first West Cork Junior B Championship in 1958. Since then, their successes included Junior 2 titles in 1968 and 1975 beating Ardfield on both occasions and in 1991 when they beat Kilbrittain. The club has had successes twice in the Under 21 B Championship, beating Timoleague in 1982 and St. Colum's in 1990. Cork Junior Football Championship
The Cork Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Junior A Football Championship and abbreviated to the Cork JAFC) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking junior clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the fifth tier overall in the entire Cork football championship system. The Cork Junior Championship was introduced in 1895 as a countywide competition for teams deemed not eligible for the senior grade or second-string senior teams. At the time of its creation it was the second tier of Cork football. In its current format, the Cork Junior A Championship begins in September following the completion of the eight Divisional Junior Championships. Colm O'Driscoll
Colm O'Driscoll (born 9 June 1988) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who used to plays as a left wing-forward for the Cork senior team and currently coaches Ilen Rovers. Born in Caheragh, County Cork, O'Driscoll first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 2014 championship. Since then O'Driscoll has become a regular member of the starting fifteen. At club level O'Driscoll plays with Tadhg Mac Cárthaigh's. O'Driscoll's brothers, Brian and Kevin, as well as his father, Gene, have all played for Cork. Pat Hegarty (Gaelic Footballer)
Pat Hegarty (born 1973) is an Irish retired Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career with the Cork senior team lasted from 1993 until 1998. Hegarty made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he was selected for the Cork minor team. He enjoyed two championship seasons with the minor team, culminating with the winning of an All-Ireland medal in 1991. Hegarty subsequently joined the Cork under-21, winning an All-Ireland medal in 1994. By this stage he had joined the Cork senior team after being added to the panel during the 1991 championship. An All-Ireland runner-up in 1993, Hegarty won three Munster medals. ''The Southern Star'' is a weekly regional newspaper based in Skibbereen, County Cork in Ireland and was established in 1889 as the ''Cork County Southern Star'', by brothers Florence and John O'Sullivan. One of its rival newspapers in the 19th century was ''The Skibbereen Eagle'', founded in 1857. It had become "famous by declaring it was 'keeping an eye on the Czar of Russia' over his expansionist designs on China". On the centenary of the event, Brendan McWilliams gave a slightly different account in ''The Irish Times'', saying that on 5 September 1898 ''The Skibbereen Eagles editorial stated "We will still keep our eye on the Emperor of Russia and on all such despotic enemies, whether at home or abroad, of human progression and man's natural rights.". The Carbery Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bandon Co-op Carbery Junior A Football Championship) is an annual club Gaelic football competition organised by the Carbery Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by junior-ranked teams in West Cork, Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. Introduced in 1926 as the West Cork Junior Football Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament. The competition went through a number of format changes since then, including the introduction of a back-door or second chance for beaten teams. The competition took on its current format in 2022, adding a round-robin group stage and limiting the number of entrants. Argideen Rangers
Argideen Rangers is a Gaelic football and Hurling club based in Timoleague in County Cork, Republic of Ireland. In 2005 the club won the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship by beating Nemo Rangers in the final. The club plays in the Carbery GAA (South West Cork) division of Cork competitions. History Back in 1892, a club in the area known as St Molaga's contested the West Cork football final. Only three clubs participated in the championship. The club was strong in the early years of the association. This was due in no small way to the establishment of the railway network in the area and the work of John Burke, a railway employee based in Timoleague. It went into decline for a while but reemerged in the 1930s, reaching the west cork Junior 'B' hurling final in 1933. Kilbrittain GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Kilbrittain, County Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in Gaelic football and Hurling, but is primarily known for hurling. The club participates in Cork GAA competitions. The club is a member of Carbery division of Cork GAA. History Kilbrittain GAA club was founded in 1904. It has been primarily a hurling club throughout its history, though it did play in the Cork Junior Football Championship final in 1926.
