Table Tennis At The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics
Table tennis at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 15 October. The competition took place at the Tecnópolis in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of 2 competitors, 1 per each gender. As hosts, Argentina is given the maximum quota should they not qualify an athlete and a further 4 spots, 2 in each gender, will be allocated by the Tripartite Commission. The remaining 58 places shall be decided in three qualification phases; the six continental qualification tournaments, the six “Road to Buenos Aires” events and the Under-18 World Rankings. To be eligible to participate at the Youth Olympics athletes must have been born between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2003. Tecnópolis
Technopolis (Spanish Tecnópolis) is a science, technology, industry and art mega exhibition in Argentina. It is the largest of its kind in the country. Located in Villa Martelli, in the Vicente Lopez division, Tecnopolis was inaugurated on July 14, 2011, by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. History Initially, Technopolis was scheduled to be held in Buenos Aires after the Argentina Bicentennial celebrations. The mega exhibition was planned to be the end of the Bicentennial celebrations organized by the national government in 2010, and inaugurated on November 19, 2010 in Buenos Aires for the "Day of Sovereignty", the anniversary of the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado, in the area of parks of the Avenida Figueroa Alcorta. Wang Chuqin
Wang Chuqin (simplified Chinese: 王楚钦; born 11 May 2000) is a Chinese table tennis player who is currently world rank number 2 in ITTF and is the top left hand player. Most recently, he was the silver medallist in Men's singles, gold medallist in Mixed Doubles with Sun Yingsha and gold medallist in Men's doubles with Fan Zhendong for the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships in Durban. He won the men's singles title at the WTT Cup Finals Xinxiang in 2021 and WTT Champions Xinxiang in 2022. He was crowned the men's singles title at WTT Champions Macao twice (2022 and 2023 respectively). Wang also won gold along with teammates Fan Zhendong, Liang Jingkun, Lin Gaoyuan and Ma Long at the 2022 World Team Table Tennis Championships. Kanak Jha
Kanak Jha (born June 19, 2000) is an American table tennis player of Indian descent. He is a two-time Olympian (2016 and 2020) and was the US national champion 4 times, winning the national title between 2016 and 2019 for a record four straight national titles. Career 2016 Jha competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's singles event and as part of the American team in the men's team event. He was the youngest American athlete to participate in the 2016 Olympics and is also the first American born in the 2000s to qualify for the Olympics. 2018 Jha also competed at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in the boy's event, in which he won a bronze medal. 2018 was somewhat of a breakout year for Jha, as he defeated several notable top players including Wong Chun Ting, Quadri Aruna, An Jaehyun, and Lin Yun-Ju. 2019 Jha won his 4th straight US National title in 2019.
