Table Tennis At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Singles
The women's singles table tennis event was a part of the table tennis program at the 2008 Summer Olympics and took place at the Peking University Gymnasium. The tournament started on August 18 with the final on August 22. 78 athletes from 42 countries took part in the women's single event. The tournament was a single elimination tournament with a third place playoff played between the two losing semi-finalists. The top 16 seeds in the tournament received a bye to the third round. Seeds 17 through 32 received a bye to the second round, seeds 33 to 50 received a bye to the first round while seeds 51 to 78 contested in the preliminary round. Peking University Gymnasium (), nicknamed China's Spine (), is an indoor arena located in the southeastern part of Peking University in Beijing, China. The gymnasium was constructed for the table tennis events of the 2008 Summer Olympics and the Paralympics. Viktoria Pavlovich
Viktoria Pavlovich ( be, Вікторыя Уладзіміраўна Паўловіч; Łacinka: Viktoryja Uładzimiraŭna Paŭłovič; born 8 May 1978) is a Belarusian table tennis player who plays for Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe SK. Li Qian (Polish Table Tennis)
Li Qian (born 30 July 1986 in Baoding) is a Chinese-Polish female table tennis player, who currently lives in Tarnobrzeg and represents the team of Siarka Tarnobrzeg. Career Li Qian became a naturalised citizen of Poland in November 2007. In early 2008, Li Qian became the first ever female Polish table tennis player to take part in the prestigious TOP-12 in Frankfurt am Main. Tamara Boroš
Tamara Boroš (born 19 December 1977) is a Croatian table tennis player. She is one of the relatively rare European players who competed at the highest level of the sport together with the players from the Far East. Boroš was born in a Hungarian family in Senta. As a junior, she played for the local table tennis club STK Senta. After the outbreak of Yugoslav Wars in 1991, she stayed in Sweden, finally settling in Zagreb, Croatia with her parents in 1993. Neven Cegnar became her new coach. Boroš was the World's number 2 player in 2002. At the World Championship in Paris in 2003 she won the bronze medal, and became the first European to win a WC medal after ten years. Gao Jun
Gao Jun (; born January 25, 1969) is a Chinese American table tennis player. Biography Gao Jun was born in Baoding, Hebei province of China. She now resides in Southern California. She is the owner of California Table Tennis club in Rosemead, CA. She won a silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the women's double event, with Chen Zihe for the Chinese National Team. She moved to the U.S. in 1994 and became a U.S. citizen. She competed for the United States in three consecutive Olympic Games from 2000 to 2008. In 2009, Gao was inducted into the USATT Hall of Fame. Gao is a nine-time U.S. women's champion. She also has won eleven U.S. national titles in women's doubles and eight titles in mixed doubles with various partners. Wu Jiaduo (; born 19 September 1977) is a Chinese-born German table tennis player. Personal At age seven, Wu received specialised table tennis training. In 1995, she became the Zhejiang provincial champion. She enrolled at the East China University of Science and Technology in 1997, studying economics. Park Mi-Young ( or ; born November 17, 1981 in Daegu, Republic of Korea) is a South Korean table tennis player. She was part of the table tennis team that won a bronze medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
