Toon Books
Toon Books is a publisher of hardcover comic book early readers founded by Françoise Mouly. With titles by such creators as Geoffrey Hayes, Jay Lynch, Dean Haspiel, Eleanor Davis, and Mouly's collaborator and husband, Art Spiegelman, Toon Books promotes its line as "the first high-quality comics designed for children ages four and up." History The concept for Toon Books came to Mouly when her son Dash was learning to read, and his first-grade teacher assigned him "easy readers."MacPherson, Karen"Comics for New Readers," ''Pittsburgh Post Gazette'' (Scripps Howard News Service) (April 14, 2009). Appalled by the lack of appeal of the educational material, Mouly instead spent time with her child and armloads of French comic books. (In fact, one of the first Toon Books releases was Agnès Rosenstiehl's ''Silly Lilly'', a.k.a. '' Mimi Cracra'', a comic-book character familiar to millions of French toddlers.) After proposing the Toon Books idea to major children's books publishers from ...

Toon (role-playing Game)
''Toon'' is a comedy tabletop role-playing game in which the players take the roles of cartoon characters. It is subtitled ''The Cartoon Roleplaying Game''. ''Toon'' was designed by Greg Costikyan and developed by Warren Spector, and first published in 1984 by Steve Jackson Games. Development Jeff Dee came up with the idea of creating a role-playing game based on cartoons when he and Greg Costikyan were talking with several other designers about genres that no one had designed game systems for; although they agreed that such a game would be impossible to design, Costikyan designed ''Toon'' a few years later as a full game with the assistance of Warren Spector. Style Although ''Toon'' is a genuine role-playing game requiring the participation of players and a game master (called the "Animator"), it is designed with a tongue-in-cheek style that deliberately parodies many of the conventions of more standard, "serious" role-playing games. In ''Toon'' the player characters neve ...

Toona
''Toona'', commonly known as redcedar, toon (also spelled tun) or toona, tooni (in India) is a genus in the mahogany family, Meliaceae, native from Afghanistan south to India, and east to North Korea, Papua New Guinea and eastern Australia. In older texts, the genus was often incorporated within a wider circumscription of the related genus ''Cedrela'', but that genus is now restricted to species from the Americas. Uses Ornamental use ''Toona sinensis'' is of interest as by far the most cold-tolerant species in the Meliaceae, native in China as far north as 40°N in the Beijing area, where its tender shoots, called ''xiangchun'' (), are a traditional local leaf vegetable. It is the only member of the family that can be cultivated successfully in northern Europe, where it is sometimes planted as an ornamental tree in parks and avenues.
