The TM-72 is a Soviet cylindrical metal-cased anti-tank mine. It is normally used with the MVN-72 or MVN-80 magnetic influence fuzes, which give it a full width attack capability. It uses a 2.5 kg shaped charge warhead capable of penetrating approximately 100 millimeters of armor at a standoff distance of between 0.25 and 0.5 meters. Magnetic Influence Fuze
A magnetic proximity fuse was patented by P.J. Eliomarkakis, (United States Patent US2434551 of January 13, 1948) although similar devices had been in service for nearly a decade. It is a type of proximity fuze that initiates a detonator in a piece of ordnance such as a land mine, naval mine, depth charge, or shell when the fuse's magnetic equilibrium is upset by a magnetic object such as a tank or a submarine. Magnetic field sensors and movement sensors inside the ordnance detect changes to the terrestrial magnetic field of the ordnance caused by another ferromagnetic object. A signal processor inside the ordnance receives the signals from the magnetic field sensors and movement sensors and activates the detonator which will then detonate the explosives within the ordnance. The TM-62 is a Soviet anti-tank blast mine made in many variants. It has a central fuze and typically a explosive charge, but the variants vary greatly in detail. The mine can be laid manually or automatically from a mine laying machine including the PMR-1, PMR-2 wheeled towed mine layers, the GMZ-3 tracked mine laying vehicle and the VMR-2 helicopter mine laying system. The TM-62 can be fitted with the same fuzes as the TM-72, which include MVN-72 and MVN-80 fuzes which are vibration and magnetism sensitive.
