T. Terrell Sessums
Thomas Terrell Sessums (June 11, 1930 – June 6, 2020) was an American politician from Florida. He served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 1972 to 1974. Early life Thomas Terrell Sessums was born June 11, 1930, in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. He was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and then moved with his family to Tampa, Florida, after he started college. Education Sessums graduated from the University of Florida with his bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor and began his law practice in Tampa. While at the University of Florida Sessums was president of the student body (1952–1953) and member of Florida Blue Key. Sessums also served in the United States Air Force. Florida Blue Key is a student leadership honor society at the University of Florida which was founded in 1923. History Founding and early years "Florida Blue Key was founded on November 1, 1923, several days prior to the University's Homecoming celebration. At the suggestion of President Albert E. Murphree, Bert C. Riley, dean of general extension, brought together a group of student leaders to form an organization which would recognize leadership and promote service to the university. Among the duties assigned to Florida Blue Key were playing host to campus visitors and to be at the call of the president of the university for any duty designated by him. In this respect, Blue Key was given the task of planning and executing Homecoming activities that year and has continued to lead this activity ever since.
