T. S. Murugesan Pillai
T. S. Murugesan Pillai (1870-1930) was a Telugu writer, poet and translator who is known for translating Tamil classical works into Telugu. Personal life Murugesan Pillai was born in Tiruchirappalli in 1870 but spent most of his life in Ettaiyapuram estate. He was a close friend of Subbarama Dikshitar. Works In 1904, Murugesan Pillai made his mark by praising Subbarama Dikshitar's ''Sangitha Sampradaya Pradharshini'' and Venkateswara Ettappa, the then ''zamindar'' of Ettaiyapuram estate. In 1918, he wrote a Telugu biography of the Tamil poet Kambar titled ''Kambamahakavi Jeevitamu''. In 1923, Murugesan Pillai published ''Nupuramahima'', a Telugu prosaic translation of the Tamil epic ''Silappadhikaram''. Ettaiyapuram Estate
Ettayapuram is a panchayat town in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is the birthplace of Tamil poets Mahakavi Bharathiar and Umaru Pulavar. Muthuswami Dikshitar, one of the triads of Carnatic music, was patronized in his final years by the ruler of Ettayapuram. History Ettayapuram was originally Ilasanadu, which was ruled by the Pandya Kings. After the Pandyas, Ettappan was appointed as palayakarar by Madurai Nayak dynasty under the supervision of Vijayanagara empire. After 150 years of rule by the descendants of Ettappan, Ilasanadu became Ettayapuram in 1565. Subbarama Dikshitar
Subbarama Dikshitar (1839–1906) was a Carnatic music composer. He was the grandson, and also the adopted son, of Baluswami Dikshitar, a brother of Muthuswami Dikshitar. He was an accomplished composer in his own right, but is more famous for his ''Sangita Sampradaya Pradarshini'', a book detailing the works of Muthuswami Dikshitar and a reference on many other Carnatic musical concepts. Baluswami Dikshitar, a noted musician, was at the court of Ettayapuram kings. His daughter had a son named Subbarama. Baluswami did not have a male child, so he adopted his daughter's son Subbarama Dikshitar as his own son and taught music to him. Subbarama Dikshitar began composing at the age of seventeen and became the court musician of the Ettayapuram kings at the age of nineteen. Venkateswara, also known by various other names, is a form of the Hindu god Vishnu. Venkateswara is the presiding deity of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, located in Tirupati, Sri Balaji District, Andhra Pradesh, India. Etymology Venkateswara literally means, "Lord of Venkata". The word is a combination of the words ''Venkata'' (the name of a hill in Andhra Pradesh) and ''isvara'' ("Lord").
