T. Denny Sanford
Thomas Denny Sanford (born December 23, 1935, in Saint Paul) is a South Dakota businessman and philanthropist. He is the founder of First Premier Bank and the chairman and chief executive officer of its holding company, United National. Career Sanford's first job was at age 8 working in his father's garment shop. He later became a student at the University of Minnesota, intending to become a doctor, but struggled with chemistry and switched majors, eventually graduating with a degree in psychology in 1958. Sanford made his fortune as the owner of subprime credit card providers First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard. The bank is known for specializing in a wide range of high-interest, subprime credit cards marketed to people with low credit scores. In 2007, Sanford paid $4.5 million as part of a settlement with the New York Attorney General that alleged deceptive practices in marketing. Homestake Mine (South Dakota)
The Homestake Mine was a deep underground gold mine (8,000 feet or 2,438 m) located in Lead, South Dakota. Until it closed in 2002 it was the largest and deepest gold mine in North America. The mine produced more than of gold during its lifetime. This is about or a volume of gold roughly equal to 18,677 US gallons. The Homestake Mine is famous in scientific circles because of the work of a deep underground laboratory that was established there in the mid-1960s. This was the site where the solar neutrino problem was first discovered, in what is known as the Homestake Experiment. Mayo Building (Rochester, Minnesota)
The Mayo Building is the main center of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. When the original 10-story Mayo Building was completed in 1955 by designers of Ellerbe & Company, it had been the largest construction project undertaken by Mayo. The Mayo Clinic features artwork by many famous artists such as Andy Warhol. Floors hold patient care offices as well administrative offices. The physical shape of each floor is that of a greek cross when viewed from above, though now that it has conjoined with the Gonda Building since 2001, the shape is not as recognizable. T.
