T. A. Madhuram
T. A. Mathuram (14 October 1918 – 23 May 1974) was an Indian stage and film actress and singer. Biography and career Mathuram was born in Srirangam on 14 October 1918 in a family of artists. Her first Tamil film was Rathnaavali released in 1935. Her next film was Vasantha Sena produced in Poone and released in 1936. She paired with N. S. Krishnan in this film. She married him later. She and Krishnan became a popular comedy duo in South Indian cinema. Indian playback singer Ramya NSK is a granddaughter of Mathuram. ''Kannagi'' is a 1942 Indian Tamil-language epic film directed by R.S Mani based on one of The Five Great Epics of Tamil Literature, '' Cilappatikaram''. This is the first Tamil film based on the epic. The second film, ''Poompuhar'', was released later in 1964. Plot R.S. Mani directs this mythological fantasy based on the first century A.D. Tamil Jain saga Silapadhigaaram. The film centers on Kovalan (P.U. Chinnappa), who is married to the faithful Kannagi (P. Kannamba). Later, Kovalan falls for the beautiful, dissolute dancer Madhavi (N.S. Saroja), who leads him to ruin. Kannagi comes in at the last moment and saves him from almost certain debauchery. ''Ratnakumar'' is a 1949 Indian Tamil-language film starring P. U. Chinnappa and P. Bhanumathi. M. G. Ramachandran did a supporting role. The film was released on 15 December 1949. Plot Despite his poverty, the protagonist Rathnakumar woos and wins the hand of Bhanumati. At the bidding of the hero, a skeleton hurls a giant rock on the ground, and diamonds, rubies and emeralds pop out. Falling into evil company, he becomes addicted to vices that make him ill-treat his wife and then desert her without any qualms. He proceeds to fall for a beautiful princess and impresses her under false pretences. However, he eventually receives his comeuppance as his dubious past is revealed and he is imprisoned. Plot Nallathambi (NSK) a simple rural man inherits an estate from his deceased ''Zamindar'' relative. The Zamindar's daughter Pushpa (Bhanumathi) falls in love with Nallathambi. However he loves another girl (T. A. Madhuram). Bhoopathy (Sahasranamam) the estate manager has his eye on the wealth and tries to cheat Nallathambi out of it.
