''Séquences'' is a French-language film magazine originally published in Montreal, Quebec by the Commission des ciné-clubs du Centre catholique du cinéma de Montréal, a Roman Catholic film society. It is the third oldest French film magazine in publication after '' Les Cahiers du cinéma'' and '' Positif''. History and profile ''Séquences'' was founded in 1955. The publication was edited for forty years by Léo Bonneville, a member of the Clerics of Saint Viator and Quebec film scholar. In 2009 the website of the magazine was launched. Élie Castiel is the editor of ''Séquences''. ''24 images'' is a French-language film magazine published in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. History and profile Founded in 1979 by Benoît Patar, ''24 images'' changed editors in 1987, with Marie-Claude Loiselle and Claude Racine assuming control. Loiselle and Racine improved the stature of the publication, adding such writers as Philippe Gajan, Gérard Grugeau, Thierry Horguelin, Gilles Marsolais and André Roy. It was published on a monthly basis. In May 2007, the magazine launched its weekly webzine. ''Positif'' is a French film magazine, founded in 1952 by Bernard Chardère in Lyon. It is one of two major French-language film magazines, created several months after '' Les Cahiers du cinéma''. The magazine is headquartered in Paris and is published monthly. Traditionally, ''Positif'' has served as a counterpoint to ''Les'' ''Cahiers du cinéma'', focusing on film themes and scripts, in contrast to politics and aesthetics. In the 1950s, ''Positif'' was associated with the non-Communist left (while ''Les Cahiers du cinéma'' originally held political affiliations with the right). Today, ''Positif'' is a neutral publication run by volunteers. The magazine was edited by Eric Losfeld from 1959. After publishing an article about Orson Welles in 1963, Michel Ciment became a member of the magazine's editorial committee. The history of cinema in Quebec started on June 27, 1896 when the Frenchman Louis Minier inaugurated the first movie projection in North America in a Montreal theatre room. However, it would have to wait until the 1960s before a genuine Quebec cinema industry would emerge. Approximately 620 feature-length films have been produced, or partially produced by the Quebec film industry since 1943. Due to language and cultural differences between the predominantly francophone population of Quebec and the predominantly anglophone population of the rest of Canada, Quebec's film industry is commonly regarded as a distinct entity from its English Canadian counterpart.
