Séamus Murphy (Wexford Hurler)
Séamus Murphy (born 1950s in Rathnure, County Wexford) is an Irish former hurling manager and player. Career He played hurling for his local club Rathnure and at senior level for the Wexford county team in the 1970s and early 1980s. Coaching career He retired from playing and became a manager due to a shoulder injury received during practice for the 1979 Wexford county title. Physiotherapy and medical treatments were unsuccessful, and Rathnure asked him to coach the minor and juvenile teams in 1981. Both teams won titles in his first season as coach. While coaching Rathnure, Murphy also worked as a construction worker for Dublin company Collen Construction. Murphy was the coach for the Wexford under-21 team when they won titles in 2001 and 2002. He had hoped to become manager of the senior Wexford team in 2001 when Tony Dempsey stepped down, but he was not considered for the post. Rathnure GAA
Rathnure St Anne's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Rathnure, County Wexford, Ireland. Rathnure's most famous players are the Rackards and Quigley brothers. First AGM At a meeting in Rathnure in the year 1931, Rathnure St Anne's GAA Club was founded. Founder members on that night were Pat Byrne, James O'Leary, Pat Doyle, Thomas Murphy, Nick Mernagh, Denis Brennan and Master O'Rielly. Also on the night, the meeting was attended by two 14-year-old boys Mikey Redmond and Ned Caulfield. The first Chairman of the club was Mr. Hugh O'Rielly, the first Secretary was Pat Byrne and the first Treasurer was Pat Doyle. John Meyler
John Meyler (born 1956) is an Irish hurling manager and former selector, association footballer, Gaelic footballer and hurler who is currently the manager of the Kilmoyley senior hurling team. He has formerly managed the Kerry, Wexford, Carlow and Cork senior hurling teams. Meyler's inter-county career spanned fifteen years. Beginning as a dual minor with Wexford, he later played with the county's under-21 and senior sides. After joining the Cork senior team in 1982, Meyler won an All-Ireland medal in 1986. As a dual player with the St Finbarr's club, Meyler won seven county championship medals across both codes, dual Munster medals and an All-Ireland medal as captain of the club's football team in 1987. As a manager, selector, coach and trainer, Meyler has previously worked with club sides Kilmoyley, Ballinhassig, Courcey Rovers and Inniscarra, and inter-county teams Kerry, Wexford and Carlow. Martin Storey
Martin Storey (born 28 September 1964) is an Irish former hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Wexford county team. Regarded as one of the greatest Wexford players of all-time, Storey made his first appearance for the team during the 1986 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement before the 2001 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, two Leinster medals and three All-Star awards. At club level Storey was a five-time county club championship medalist with Oulart–The Ballagh. In retirement from playing Storey has become involved in team management and coaching. After serving as a selector at club level, he subsequently served as trainer of the Wexford senior camogie team and manager of the Wexford minor hurling team. The Wicklow county hurling team represents Wicklow in hurling and is governed by Wicklow GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Rathnure () is a small village on the R731 regional road about from the town of Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland. The village is located at the foot of the Blackstairs Mountain, which borders County Carlow on the opposite side. Places of interest Local points of interest include the John Kelly Memorial and grave in Kilanne, and Monksgrange House. Tony Dempsey
Tony Dempsey (born 11 May 1944) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wexford constituency from 2002 to 2007. Dempsey is a native of Davidstown, County Wexford and was educated at Enniscorthy Christian Brothers School, University College Dublin and St. Patrick's College, Maynooth. Prior to entering politics he worked as a secondary schoolteacher, and was a principal teacher of a large secondary school in Enniscorthy at the time of his election. He was always widely known for his involvement with Gaelic games in County Wexford. The Wexford Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Pettitt's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1889. Rapparees are the title holders (2022) after defeating St Martin's by 1-20 to 0-22 in the final.
